I took snapped this this morning, to show off the little gadget I'm holding.

    Me, April 2012

It's a WikiReader, an "Internetless" Wikipedia display device. I upgraded the memory chip and put on Project Gutenberg, a dictionary, and a quote database.

@StefanJ Ooooh! Are those things awesome or a bit silly? I can't quite decide myself. I like the (potential) immediacy of getting answers and without having to worry about service coverage. I also like the personal associations to the Hitchhiker's Guide, considering it's a portable info device. How is it in use?

    Tardis and such
Waiting for a certain Ginger Ninja (aka. Will Ellwood) near both the Doctor's TARDIS and Inspector Spacetime's BOOTH. No sight of Blorgons or Daleks, luckily.

(didn't notice the Inspector's Booth until it was too late to reframe)

@Magnulus: I've only had maybe ten minutes of time with it, and have only fooled around. I haven't had to really "use" it yet. Some observations:

There's no backlighting, but the screen is fairly readable.

It's got a touch screen that only seems to work with fingertips. You enter search terms with a little on-screen keyboard (visible above). It displays a list of hits within a few seconds of typing.

The articles do have working links, which is neat.

The reader are on clearance for $15.00. A 16gb chip (required for WikiPedia + Gutenberg) is another $15.00.

    self portrait w assistance
Post-party directed self portrait (as in I directed someone to take the photo for me). Partially to document the makeup (which kind of shows up ok). I should get my hair cut soon. Bleh.

@Magnulus: Throw in a bowtie (cause they're cool) and you'd be a ringer for the 11th Doctor!

You may recall my 8 month beard:
    A missing mustache
and its subsequent missing mustache week.

    Now. . .
I have decided to, for an entire month, stay clean shaven. This will be the longest I've been clean shaven in *years*.
    Self Portrait

. . . It will be difficult because I am uncomfortable with how ill defined my chin and jaw are without facial hair.

And for context, a more evenly shorn beard:
    self portriat for ENGL444 01

    Octo-tattoo update Saturday, btw.

@Magnulus - Watching the classic movie channel, i saw a clip from one of Peter O'Toole's first films "The Day They Robbed the Bank of England", and the first thing I thought was how strikingly you look like him.

    Doctor Toole! :D

I really really hope that one day I'll be at the level where I can get to play Doctor Who. I could do without the sudden insane rise to the public's eye with all that that implies, but just to play The Doctor... Yes please.

If you do, can I be your aged companion? It's been my dream since I was a child, which was dashed when Perry became the American companion, and was then demolished when the show was cancelled. I literally stopped acting in my teens after doing so all through childhood, largely due to my Doctor Who aspirations being no longer feasible.

I've now decided to secretly attempt to get on the Big Finish Audio productions. Though I've no idea how.

I've accumulated a lot of cameras through the years. Several of these are from Goodwill, others bought on closeout, and none are even "prosumer" units. But still, kind of weird to find myself with this pile. And I'd forgotten to take another one out.
