    Acupuncture for Pain No Better Than Placebo -- And Not Without Harm, Study Finds

    In an accompanying commentary, Harriet Hall, MD, states her position forcefully: "Importantly, when a treatment is truly effective, studies tend to produce more convincing results as time passes and the weight of evidence accumulates. When a treatment is extensively studied for decades and the evidence continues to be inconsistent, it becomes more and more likely that the treatment is not truly effective. This appears to be the case for acupuncture. In fact, taken as a whole, the published (and scientifically rigorous) evidence leads to the conclusion that acupuncture is no more effective than placebo."

    Haven't had a Prison News update in a while, but I found this to be interesting, though I haven't encountered it myself:

    Inmates Using Dead Language to Communicate

    Inmates are using the Aztec language to talk in code, officials said.
    The State Corrections Department in Santa Fe said prisoners are using the Aztec language to build a new empire inside prison walls.

    No, I don't find it surprising at all, but it falls more in that category of mixing the past & the future into something new. Like the Santa Murte religion, and the Patron Saint of Drug Dealers, such odd cultural mutations; they're kinda fun to watch evolve.

    @gov_spy - that is a good titbit of atemporal cultural intersection. I'd like to see more Mezo-American Gothic in the world. I still say that a photographic typology of Santa Murte objects and shrines would make an amazing coffee table book. Although arguably deeply intrusive.

    As an aside, you might be interested by the book ATOMIK AZTEX by Sesshu Foster, which is a hallucinated mixture of a working in an East LA slaughterhouse and a parallel-universe Battle of Stalingrad where the Aztec Empire is one of the Allies. Published by City Lights out of San Francisco.

    They discovered a ruined radioactive city in India in the 1990s? I've been reading about the ruined radioactive city in India for years - mostly from books published in the 70's and 80's.

    Or - could there be more than one!? :D

    There are towns in some parts of the UK over massive radon deposits that are more radioactive than places inside the Fukushima exclusion zone, for example.
