^Heh, you rebel, you ;)

That was a nicely tense episode. As soon as I saw those blood splattered crows, I had my worries. Also, I loved the switch from 'Hee hee hee' to 'Ha Ha Ha'. Very sinister.

Minor spoiler for the "The Boys" TPB "Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker" follows:

Between this and flying super-fetus getting its skull crushed by a table lamp, I think I've had my fill of wince-inducing stuff happening to kids for this month!

Of course, I don't say that to complain. In fact, I think the conclusion was well-handled. The most interesting thing about the story is what Shakey was still trying to do, even after witnessing that and the inevitable aftermath.

I think this is quickly becoming the best Crossed series, period.

The intensity of the character and setting development is several notches above anything the limited series have provided, and are miking this a much more visceral experience. This episode in particular, being mostly ... er ... 'pastoral', hits a little harder, since you get to see tensions arise that in 'normal, modern' society tend to be shunned.

And then those lovely crows come with their gift and KILL IT WITH FIRE NOW FIRE GODDAMMIT

That was intense. I agree that reading this in bitesize chunks is a brilliant way to consume CROSSED. And it just looks so good full screen on a monitor. Seriously enjoying the series so far, the pacing is fantastic.

Very well written, but genuinely, gut punchingly upsetting. Maybe (definitely) I'm a bit emotional at the moment and over empathising as a parent of a toddler, but found that utterly horrific to the point where I cried when I went back into the house and picked up my little girl. Guess it plays on the absolute terror of not being able to protect your offspring against random, stupid, cruel nature. And knowing that in a lot of places, that shit happens (maybe not a zombie psycho plague as such, but I don't see landmines, civil war or Reaper drones fucking up weddings as being that far removed).

I may have to read a whole bunch of Winnie the Pooh stories to counterbalance this...

It does look good on a full screen, and I'm glad I'm not reliant on something smaller to read it on. I'm not saying this to crawl up to our King Mod, because testicular bottle flies are all I need, but I feel that if this had been by written by most (comic) writers it wouldn't be as compelling or entertaining. I've read a lot of comics where the depiction of English/Scottish/Whatever people is just based on stereotypes, and after a while it does get a bit tedious. I won't say any names, but a few spring to mind.

I grew up in the North-East of this country, and was constantly enduring ""slanguage" (is that a word!?) My grandmother, for example, used the words "bugger" and "bairns" all the time (usually in the same sentence). So far, the "slanguage" in WUWH has been spot-on, and not just a case of sticking the same catchphrase at the end of random speech bubbles. This is good in defining different, genuine characters.

Anyway, that kid is all Crossed-up now, plus-faced. I'm looking forward to see how they deal with it.
