When pepper-spray had no effect on Carter, police retreated and called the SWAT team, who subdued him with beanbag projectiles.

“The scene was a bloody mess,” a police official told Cliffview Pilot. “The SWAT team members had to be decontaminated due to the amount of blood.”

Carter reportedly damaged a major stomach artery and had more than 50 stab wounds.

Police are awaiting the results of a blood test to determine if Carter had ingested any psychoactive substances.

It's like something out of Kafka. Anti-science anarchists in Italy appear to be ramping up their violent and frankly surreal campaign. Having claimed responsibility for shooting the boss of a nuclear engineering company in Genoa, the group has vowed to target Finmeccanica, the Italian aerospace and defence giant.

HELENA, Montana (Reuters) - A West Virginia man who was traveling across the United States gathering material for a book about kindness in America was shot and wounded while eating lunch in Montana, police said on Monday.

Ray Doland, 32, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the arm following the incident near Glasgow, Montana on Saturday, Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier said.

Doland was still in hospital on Monday but was expected to recover, Meier said.

He said that Doland, who was hitchhiking across the country and writing a memoir about kindness in America, had been eating lunch at a spot of historical interest and was looking for a ride.

When Doland approached a vehicle that pulled up near him the driver opened fire, hitting him in the arm, before speeding away, Meier said.

A suspect, identified as 52-year-old Charles Lloyd Danielson III, was later taken into custody in Culbertson, Montana, Meier said.

"Montana is certainly full of a bunch of nice people and wonderful people and it's a shame this kind of thing happens but it just happens," Meier said.

The Ocean X Team dove down to the circle-shaped object in the Baltic Sea and met something they never experienced before. First they thought it was just stone or a rock cliff, but after further observations the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. The object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A West Virginia man who claimed to be a victim of a drive-by shooting along a rural Montana highway while working on a memoir called "Kindness in America" has confessed to shooting himself, authorities said Friday.

Ray Dolin of Julian, W. Va., 39, made the acknowledgement Thursday night, said Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier.

The case remains under investigation and charges are possible, though none have been filed.

Dolin claimed he was hitchhiking along U.S. Highway 2 west of Glasgow on Saturday when the driver of a maroon pickup pulled over and shot him in the arm.
