    rough detail

    I haven't worked with oils since high school, but I've been wanting to move to them for a while. This is the rough beginning of one. I can tell already that patience is a skill I will need to cultivate with this medium.

    @NeilFord - closed eyes are the most fun to build. BTW your comics project is indescribably gorgeous. I can't wait to see it finished. Every drawing you show from it is more beautiful than the last.

    So it's official, I have the need to hit the road blues and this is the results, how many more can I draw before I give up, buy an old RV and go on a road trip. Who knows.

    @Amalgamated Biscuit I look forward to more puns.

    I haven't done anything with colors other than black, white, and a million shades of gray in a while. I missed colors.

    Oldhat, I have a big man-crush on him as well. Love all his movies.
    Fred, did you draw that in Illustrator? I have been wanting to try a vector image sometime. It just seems like so much work. Do you work through an image like this fairly quickly?

    "Don't call me Shirley"
    the joker

    Couple hours drawing/digital from image.
    Might be my most obscure artwork title yet. I bet Heath Ledger was a cool dude.
    thanks tomas

    @no cuddle time:
    How you do that?
    • CommentTimeJun 21st 2012
    @initiatezao, yup those are illustrator vector drawings. They took me about 4 hours off and on over a few days (sneaking them in between paying work). I have been using Illustrator for probably 25 years now so it's second nature, but once you get the hang of how vector handles respond it's pretty easy to use. The biggest tip I can give you is to work in stages and group them. Like in this example a rear view mirror, or wheel would be drawn separately and grouped so you can grab it and move it around easily. It will save you a ton of headaches later on when an art director says "Hey this is great, just move this.....and that....and resize this part and make it green...."
