In Shepherd's Bush, I can hear some sound-system pounding out wank music. It may be good, but to me, it's not.
I spotted some humans with little flags. They were waving these flags, like working-girls trying to get rid of punters quick.
Gangs of youths are getting pissed, and you know there will be blood.
Houses are going to be empty in the respectable streets round the corner, making them easy pickings for the bastards that live in the hostel.

Patriotic zeal, sixty years of Queeny-rule.

It's Saturday, we've got four days of this to look forward to, and I've no idea how I'm going to get through it.

I'll probably do a meeting tomorrow, then maybe go to Hyde Park.

The Queen's boat, for the flotilla thing; I saw it the other day in Richmond. It looked crap.

How are other people getting through these festivities? If your drinking, have one for me, because I can't.

    Happy Jubilee. Bah!

I've kept my head down. It's been a shit couple of years to be a republican, what with the wedding last year and now this. There's been a lot of involvement with it all at work and to be too overtly cynical would make my cards more marked than they already are so I've kept my insubordination to a few cracks about the Queen topping off the ceremony by burning the bones of Cromwell in a wicker man and left it at that.

I've tried also to explain gently to my kids why I don't think it's right that we have a hereditary system, and tried to ask them 'what do you think the Royal Family's ancestors did to other people to get where they are?'

I'm going to get through it by drinking and pretending that I'm living in a real life Gormenghast.

Hahaha. My girlfriend and I have been in the UK for 4 months and will still be here for another 2, and we've taken to calling her Queeny for no discernible reason. Glad to see we aren't entirely insane then!

Also, as an Aussie, I'm well aware of the royal family, but them and the whole circus surrounding them doesn't mean shit to me... I'm guessing that's also true for most UKians under 50 years of age.

Reporting in from Streatham Hill, London:
Absolutely nothing has changed. No flags, not bunting, no street party, no drinking even.
Neighbours are jumping about and making weird yelping noises from time to time but that's normal, for them.

Apparently we don't care very much about Queeny round these parts.
    This is acceptable.

I still prefer it to the fucking Olympics.

I must admit to being glad I'm in Amsterdam and that my TV is broken.
I can still remember what a shit day I had in 77 when I didn't win the spacehopper race at the Seaburn Silver Jubilee Gala.

How will i be getting through the festivities? Good bleeding question, considering i shall be undertaking my usual weekend occupation of delivering shit to shops in the West End in a pokey little 7.5 tonner. The traffic was mercifully light while i was out today and i'm hoping i'll miss the worst of it tomorrow. Monday and Tuesday could be interesting though, not sure what i'm meant to be up to then, or what i'm driving. Mine's the one with the Jolly Roger in the back. I like my royalty like i like my beer - a good London pint should be served with no head!

Reports everywhere of attempted purchases of the Sex Pistols' God Save the Queen, which has a campaign behind it to get it to number one, being blocked. On Amazon it's apparently been made free to download - so get it if you want a copy, but that means it won't chart.

I can't believe they did it again.

But this is what's really punk now. Sonny Green, 17 year old rapper who speaks truth:

I'm just glad I don't live in London anymore.

Out here in the countryside, we like our quiet too much to go mental.
    It's also raining. A lot.
Not exactly conducive to street parties...not that we have actual streets.

    Best of luck London bods.

I find it hard to even have the strength of feeling to go so far as to be republican.

It's never likely to happen here because our royals are now more like a museum piece to bring in the tourists than any particular seat of power, so I just tend to ignore it.

@ Flaybo: I've got an American friend who, whenever royalty hits the headlines, expresses a bewildered disbelief that we (as a nation) still allow ourselves to be represented and nominally led by a hereditary, undemocratic system. It's not that it's a boring conversation but the apathy you mentioned looms large whenever the subject comes up...which only serves to exasperate her even more.

Here in deepest, darkest Salford, my standard wake-up to the BBC news channel this morning lasted as long as it took my ears to start working and caught wind of its wall-to-wall wankathon for those with an octogenarian fetish.

I spotted a few St George's flags hanging out of windows yesterday but assumed they were in place so they would've decayed into grey, tatty strips of rags by the time England are playing in Euro 2012, but who knows.

Anyroadup, think I might go dig out a certain title track on the third studio LP by an old & obscure Manchester pop combo called The Smiths and play that all day.

There's a chap down the road from me who has a flagpole in his garden which usually has a St. Georges Cross on it. He's changed it for the Union flag this week. Still, at least he knows which way up it goes, unlike a lot of the others I saw being flown down in town yesterday.

(This probably doesn't sound odd to the Americans on here, but public flying of our nations flag in our yards isn't something we do as a general rule. Doubly so when it's the England flag rather than the Union one, as it has unpleasant nationalist overtones).

@The Mighty Foamhead: I'll lend you a sponge and a rusty spanner, so you can break into the palace. Sorry, I had to say that. I love that track.
I've not been to Manchester since we used to drive there and park the motor outside Strangeways to collapse in after pratting-out on the dance-floor at The Hacienda.

    Fookin' Madchester!

@Flabyo - let us not forget flying a national flag upside-down is a symbol of distress...

Got back to London from Madrid earlier this evening. The weather was (and still is) miserable and the tube and buses were full of relatively frustrated looking revellers...serves them right.

That Sonny Green kid is an awesome 17 year old, I like that he looks towards progress and humanitarianism. At 17 all I was looking for was some booze and a floozy. YOUTUBE SUBSCRIBED

All i can say is that i'm SOOOOO glad i've found myself over 1000 miles away in another country. We have Sky News and i flicked it over for a few minutes to see what was happening. Big mistake. It reminded me of the BTN news network from "V For Vendetta"

I txt'd my brother today to see how he was holding up.

His reply was simple - "FUCK. YOU!"

and it was really sunny in Iceland this weekend as well!
