The Mass Effect world fancies me in the same ways. It's futuristic and full of really neat, but also visually beautiful, tech (and you get to explore the whole galaxy!), but with the whole bionics thing going on it still has that feeling of having something magical about it, without being an actual magical world in the faeries sense. And I really fell in love with all the different alien races and planets you get to visit in the game. Like SR, the Mass Effect world calls to me because I spent so much time playing the games that part of me feels like i actually know the world, it feels familiar. Also, as much as I romanticize the dystopian aspects of cyberpunk, when it comes down to it, I don't think I'd actually like to live in it (what with the fighting for survival and whatnot. It's like how I LOVE the transmet world but wouldn't want to live there.), so if I had to choose between SR and ME, I'd have to go with ME just because it's easier to have a decent standard of living without having to work for a corrupt corporation.

Bottom line: I really like futuristic cyberpunk & SciFi worlds, and I really like magical faerie worlds, but if I can get a world that can somehow mesh the two aspects in a way that feels natural and unforced, then that's the world I'd want to be in. The conflicts and moral ambiguities come from the tinkering round the edges with other civilizations and societies - they have the kind of opposite of the Prime Directive, and actively intervene in societies they believe are cruel/inhumane or where they just feel like shaking things up. I've always liked post-apocalyptic worlds, have a great love for London, and often find the modern world confusing, alienating and too full of people. A simpler, more sparsely populated world where you wake up in the morning knowing exactly what you need to do that day, and know exactly how it will benefit the community has a great deal of appeal. Additionally a restricted diet and plenty of physical labour would get me in much better shape.

My pulp tendencies don't have a lot to recommend them for a place to live--the worlds of Doc Savage or The Shadow--but I sure do like to visit.
