Spent the evening hanging with Hey Apathy at his art show, talking art with his friends and fans and getting majorly drunk - woohoo!

On the whole it's hugging time, so: I got my new glasses; movement of the head results in reality bending, which is always good for a laugh - varifocal HD peyote vision!
I did a meeting at the church over the road, which was all very Chelsea-posh and very quiet until a crew of mental-marauders fleshed it out like Public Enemy on glue. That was the best bit, apart from chatting to a kid from New York who's just a few days clean. He seemed OK, even though he's probably a serial killer stalking vulnerable English addicts to play with.

I'm going to the seaside for a day next week for assessment at the rehab, which is going to be a grimy expedition; I've not been out of London for so long I'll probably evaporate on the train with city-exodus-fever. Because I fit the profile, plus I'm fully qualified in weird, I reckon I'll get the job of Shivering Wreck Department Head.

A bit worried about the north, as lightning hit the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle yesterday - it's only a bridge, though. The place I "grew up" in (Whitley Bay), is flooded, which never happened when I "lived" there. I think our Paprika resides near the "Toon", so I hope he's OK. If I'm geographically wrong then I apologize, Mr P.

Today's new expression: I'm slopping out.

Today (right now!) is my last shift at crappy old awful job where they cut all my shifts in the past two weeks and make me do the work of four people even though we have no customers and I never make any tips. Yay!

In celebration, I am drinking heavily.

Also tomorrow my new roommate arrives. Talked to her today; seems she has access to $400 in a bank account that may or may not be there tomorrow; also her soon-to-be-ex-husband stole her computer while she was sleeping. So, I may be playing sugar momma for a while. Which is cool, because I'm totally rich-ass right now.

I went camping in the Sierra Nevadas for a handful of days. I paddled around Lake Alpine in my kayak with my girl, my son and my dogs (not all at once). It was a great get-away and I am still exhausted from all the exertion, as well as racing back to Oregon to get to a concert (bought tix for my girl's birthday).

    Exhausted and happy.

@flecky - Congrats on the new spectacles!

Nobody knows this yet because we just found out today: there's going to be a little Spy in about nine months. The future Mrs. Spy just visited the doc today and got it confirmed. We hadn't exactly planned this, but we were open to the idea. We weren't sure Mrs. Spy could conceive, so we thought it best left up to Fate.

So, this changes a few things. We're not flying around the country to meet family for the wedding we had planned for next fall, instead we're going to just do a simple ceremony in the next week or two so I can put her on my good gov't insurance, and she can cancel hers so we can save some $. Also, she doesn't know the specifics, but I'm booking a little weekend at a local B&B after the ceremony because the lady deserves at least a little honeymoon.

So yeah, my life just flipped its lid almost overnight, but we're really excited and want to have this baby! We're going to wait until we actually get the marriage certificate before we really tell anyone, so you guys are the only ones who know! Oh. And I know I'm gonna freak out eventually, so thanks in advance for helping me through that.

Having kids is the best thing I ever did. I'm just imagining the bedtime stories you'll be telling them. Congrats.

Life's starting to swing straight after the break-up, the move, assorted illnesses and some annoying fuck ups. Got off antibiotics today, got the rent deposit back so I'm not utterly broke anymore, been having nice days on the sun in my new balcony in my new kick-ass recliner, fun evenings out with pals, and so forth. This weekend I'll be learning machining with a locksmith, and I'll spend a lion's share of next week helping in an archaeological dig. The week after that I may have an apprentice thing in movie prop building with a guy who's been the prop master for some big war films up here. Today I'll begin building my hydroponic window garden, so it'll be a wet and wild day... On Monday, maybe a date of sorts... or at least a preliminary coffee of circling around and sniffing at each others' butts. We'll see.

Two weeks of holiday left, and looking good.

Doing some changes in life, like dropping pork, beef and chicken off the menu. I've been so broke I've been living on salads and cereals anyway for the last month, so this is kind of a logical moment to do that switch.

Hmm, I think I've been welcomed into the neighborhood. I have developed a habit of having a good beer bar as a home away from home, ie. a living room with good selection of beers and a chance for random encounters, a good place to read, write and code games. When I moved to my new apartment, which is on an island next to Helsinki downtown, it took me a little while to find a good place, but finally managed to find a cozy place with a rather good beer selection and a friendly staff and atmosphere.

For the last two evenings I've been sitting in the chosen place, playing The Walking Dead. The local denizens just started chatting with me at the bar counter about beers, and the bartender joined in - later turned out that she was the boss woman of the place. Enter a fun evening where the bartender didn't bring me the trappist beers I was ordering, but instead of what she thought I'd like :) Had nice chats of The Island, as the locals seem to call the place, with "nah, you don't need anything from the mainland, just raise the bridge up and all is good".

Camaderie! Also just found out that there are bike and pedestrian lanes leading out to the other islands around here, so when the sky stops pissing down like a racehorse, dive to do some exploring on a bike!
