Atlas Sound, somthing about blind people smelling for the ones that can't touch...? - Sounds like Deerhunter, but not. People say its "dreamy," so I guess that's what it is. Good enough on the first listen.
The Mountain Goats, Heretic Pride - Songs about Sax Rohmer! H.P. Lovecraft! Michael Myers! If you know the MGs, you know what to expect - awesome.
Vampire Weekend, s/t - You can almost hear how rich and white these guys are. Wait, there's no "almost" about it, they more or less say it outright. But, they say it in such a fun way. This album should have really come out in the summer - it's summer music all the way.
The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet Wreckless Eric - Whole Wide World The Jam - Going Underground The Clash Armagideon Time The Farm - Groovy Train fIREHOSE - Mannequin (Wire cover) The Gossip - Listen Up! The Undertones - Here Comes the Summer
albums i kinda forgot i had until i started loading up my ipod:
blood money- tom waits black candy- beat happening (i've had the song "knick knack" stuck in my head off and on lately) subliminal plastic motives- self feels like breaking shit- self
also found my beloved copy of blood and chocolate by elvis costello and the attractions. was in the case for the juliet letters. may be why i had lost it for months.
Anyone who's liking the Mars Volta album should listen to Ungdomskulen, who seem to be flying completely below the radar at the moment. Very similar stuff.
This week, I've been enjoying the new s/t album from This Will Destroy You, a grab-bag of XTC stuff streaming off the Hype Machine, and leaked tracks from the new Boris album, Smile.
My assistant just played me the Dropkick Murphy's, for the first time. So no teenyboper scaring noise, but productivity after lunch fell to nothing as I sat this making my ears ring, craving Guiness and Jamesons.
My assistant is ten years younger than me, but this week he is my hero...
Some old Small Faces albums. They're soo depressingly, wonderfully 60s. That organ sound, which eventually, with "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" from Procol Harum, I couldn't stand anymore, is so poignant. Maybe it's because I loved Steve Mariott's songs and voice. Or maybe it's just because I've bought myself a new guitar and wish I could play like he did. Or even play at all! Call me sad, but I miss him!
Look, I don't care how lame this makes me. I fully confess that I loved the video for the Away Team remix of Shirley Bassey singing Love Story. And I just stumbled across the video again and I still love it.
It can not be helped. It's that cone-shaped wheel-footed Shirley Bassey bot. She's just so cute! It warms my badly programmed mechanical heart.
fuccccccck, my record store still didnt get that genghis tron somehow...i dont get it. they are on point with ordering, and never fuck up thinks like that.
