So, Breaking Bad returns next week. It is almost a given that things will not end well for Walter White. The big question is, who is going to go down with him?

The Disney Channel has a new cartoon, Gravity Falls, that based on the pilot I like a lot. It is a "place where weird shit happens" show. A sister and brother are sent to work for their great uncle for the summer. He runs a "Mystery Spot" type tourist trap in the Oregon wilderness. In the pilot, the girl gets a crush on a slightly older hoodie-wearing "bad boy" whom the brother thinks is a zombie. (He has a book of monster knowledge, similar to the Wessel guidebook in Grimm, or the diary in The Spiderwick Chronicles.)

As it turns out,
the boy is actually a whole bunch of garden gnomes who want the girl to be their queen. And hey, gnomes vomit rainbows!

RE: Breaking Bad's flashbacks. It's been a narrative device since the first season, so I don't mind it at all. I think the show should be looked at more in continuity with itself: the seasons aren't chapters, they're acts, or arcs, of a story that will ostensibly conclude at the end of this season's second part. It's a pulp action series of sorts, which is like a lovechild of Thunderbirds, old Bond movies and Robot Chicken. It's goddamn refreshing to see a series where the creators don't pull any stunts when it comes to going Weird :D

I've been watching the new crop of broadcast network shows. So far, all sitcoms. I'm not willing to commit to another Big Mystery Drama Series, so I'll leave it to others to try out "Revolution" and the one about the renegade submarine crew.

"Go On" is surprisingly involving. Matthew Perry is a widower trying to sort things out with the help of a support group. Someone pointed out the similarity to Community.

"The New Normal" isn't bad. A predictable but amusing "Modern Family" wanna-be. Gay couple supports surrogate mom and her daughter.

Watched the new CBS sitcom "Partners," because it was between two shows I usually watch, and wanted to scratch my eyes out. Really, really, awful.

I just watched "The Mindy Project." It seemed rather insubstantial. Hard to concentrate on. I'd try it again.

I'd more or less given up on the drama "Parenthood" when Ray Romano turns up as a regular. Be it as it may, the costumes - Jebus. Whoever did the costume design should be fired. From a cannon. Post-holocaust environment with spray-on gay club shirts for men, and straight-off-the-rack leather jackets for women? Yeah, no matter what the rationale, that just looks horrible.

Also, I can solve the energy problems for the characters: just harness the passive aggressive tantrums of the main characters for power and the whole world is set...

Brings the change in status quo from the end of S1 fully into focus, doesn't resolve the problem left by the cliff-hanger and has a nice light touch with the badassery. Plus, Reese makes a new friend!
