I remember Starblazer. Unlike most of the great Brit publications it wasn't widely available in Australia, so the only way to obtain copies (other than mail order from the publisher) was in thrift shops as English immigrants sold off their old books.

The UK has threatened to storm Ecuador's embassy over Assange. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the raid has already happened. Unable to get conformation at this time.

So, two pals went ahead and won The Diana Jones Award for Excellence in Gaming with their book Nordic Larp.

If you think that larping is just people wearing droopy elf ears running around in the woods screaming "lightning bolt", give this book a whirl and prepare to be surprised. For me it's an encyclopedia of awesome games I missed on account of being a dumb-ass. Well, I was in Ground Zero.

@Vornaskotti; Wow! That is really wonderful news! I remember doing a review for an early issue of Playground Magazine. Definitely deserved.

While Apple and Samsung have been fighting it out in court, a Chinese company most westerners have never heard of has been building a phone that outperforms both the iPhone and the Galaxy at a fraction of the price.

@kosmopolit - depends on what you mean by 'outperforms'. The components will be of lower quality. It's fairly easy to build something that'll beat benchmark tests, but still be fairly crappy. It's like sticking loads of go-faster bits on a crappy car. Yeah, it might go fast for a while, but it'll never be a Ferrari.

Yes, yes - and Americans will never buy Japanese cars.

To be less blatantly snarky, the previous generation smartphone from Xiaomi had a Qualcomm snapdragon CPU and a sharp LCD scree,

The company is owned by the same guy who owns Kingsoft, a leading Chinese software company and is being sold at a loss to promote the MiUi Android-based OS and to sell Kingsoft apps.

2,684-Year Old Brain Exhumed In Yorkshire.

The added detail that the former owner of the brain was apparently hung and then decapitated with the head buried separately has sent me racing toward Hollywood with a screenplay about brain-scanning technology that inadvertently resurrects a Iron Age serial killer and/or vampire.

Also, the paper on the brain, including a comparison of ancient brain finds.

Holy shit. Those girls have DIAMONDS for ovaries.

EDIT TO ADD: Which is not to dispute what is being said later in the thread. This probably was not at all a good idea.

Russia is a big place, and I think they've finally stepped over the mark at which people will sit back and let it slide.

It's going to get very messy now, but in a good way. Albiet a probably very bloody way.

Great publicity stunt and all, but she can't use a chainsaw for shit, and I'm amazed she didn't have a major kickback and horribly injure herself.

I don't know about the great publicity stunt part. She cut down a memorial to the victims of Communism in the Ukraine to protest a jail sentence in Russia. That's be like me burning down the Holocaust museum in Germany to protest the Tea Party.

    That kind of sucks.

I was more concerned about that girl's safety. Bare breasts and long flowing hair, while beautiful, do not belong within ten feet of an operating chainsaw. Also, it's criminally stupid to push the tip of a chainsaw bar into the cut; you're begging for the blade to catch and fling the saw into your face (totally unprotected face and upper body, in this case). I've seen the results of three chainsaw accidents, and they're never pretty.
