    It's probably good he can write in 140 characters. They don't leave much space on those job centre forms to write what you've been doing to find work, because he will be lucky to have a job after this, especially following his ss uniform stag night debacle

    However it looks like Boyle has pulled off a bit of subversion, basically using the event as a huge advert for the NHS, also resulting in the first lesbian kiss broadcast on Saudi TV and a massive celebration for British art, film, music and literature under the noses of a Tory govt. IMO a nice piece of use the system against the system subversion. If we have to have the Olympics then this was the way to recover something from it.


    The blatancy of the NHS sequence was unbelievable :-D

    Cheering the torch on, it felt like I had been nostalgically scooped to a feeling of carnival, if only for a second. But the flotilla didn't consist of dressed-up kids playing kettle drums - it was a corporate convey of cash-fueled corruption that melted my eyes. I clapped as whores thought they looked good dancing on the upper decks to vile music, which makes me nothing more than a grubby punter doing it behind his wife's back.

    The Mayor's voice may drone from speakers on the bus, but I don't understand a word of it.

    If this is a virus, then we must find a cure. My resistance cell is ready to go to work - we're just waiting for the activation word.

    It was pretty damn British, I'm struggling to think of anything major you could call British that they left out. Rather silly throughout, but in a nice way.

    I despise these games, what they're doing to London and this country, their cost and the corporate fascism, and the BBC's biased coverage, but actually that was a pretty great show.
    I thought at least 50% of it was great, and the parts that wern't it's more a case of pacing and inactivity than being embarrassingly lame.

    @Alan - that would be the local branch of the legendary Critical Mass
    LOCOG clearly set out to taunt them by scheduling the opening ceremony for the last friday of the month.

    They've aggregated some fresh press, and a couple of youtubes of arrests being made, at that link already. People seem so desensitized and apathetic about the subjugation of the city anyway that I sort of doubt this will raise more than a couple eyebrows. Police are already handwaving it.

    I'm with flecky on the cash-fueled corruption thing, though probably not the popsicles. I did feel a sort of relief when it was all over and there was no dimensional portal being torn open by a hungry elder god. If relief is the right word.
