    Those satanic mills, monumental and (intentionally) disturbing at the same time, forging the Olympic rings, like some Marxist fever dream, made my hair stand on end.

    They skipped the part, though, where the British took over half the world, but since half the world are their guests, it would probably be bad form to bring it up.

    I'm an American, so…Socialized medicine summons the Mary Poppins Squadron whenever sick kids are terrified by bedtime stories? Cool.

    Some tourists asked me for directions to the Olympic Interzone. Being a bastard, I involuntary pointed them in the wrong direction and sent them packing to the worst council estate in London. Bad things tend to happen to tourists in Cr(Acton) - things like death!

    NBC's Sad Olympics
    Watch NBC's Olympic coverage for 10 minutes and you'll probably find yourself tearing up at least once. Watch for an hour and you'll have something to talk to your therapist about next week.
    In its relentless effort to provide the dramatic human interest stories behind the games -- we need something to do while those athletes are just standing around -- NBC seems to have dug up every sad, heart-wrenching anecdote they could find. It would almost seem that a lifetime of training is nothing if fate hasn't also dealt you a couple of identity-shattering blows to the stomach.

    Twitter account suspension prompts user backlash
    Twitter is facing a user backlash after suspending the account of a journalist who had criticised NBCUniversal's coverage of the Olympic Games.
    The US TV network had complained that Independent newspaper correspondent Guy Adams had posted the email address of one of its executives.

    NBC Sports subsequently released a statement confirming it had called for the action.

    Now there moaning that a young Chinese girl might be doped-up and swims fast...very fast! This was the main story on tonight's news - a girl takes drugs, goes in a pool, splashes around, gets out and smiles. Coach Americana wasn't happy about this, oh no.

    "Very fast" is an understatement. She broke the world record by 7 seconds, which is a not-insignificant amount, AND she swam the last leg of hers faster than Ryan Lochte, a gold-medal male swimmer.

    I REALLY hope she wasn't doping because if she wasn't, this would be fucking awesome.

    So, as one who lives in America and not following any of this at all, I just found out about the whole thing where a sports team bought the stadium you guys built for this thing, and they want to tear it down and make another one when it's all over. I am amazed at this.

    @ Fishelle: It's the radioactive waste (thorium & radium) buried on the site decades ago (and only revealed because of a Freedom of Information request) which makes it such a popular spot.

    And I bet you thought all those weird opening ceremony creations were puppets, not generations of mutated pearly kings & quuens.

    As for knocking it down and building a new one, just had a quick Google to check no new developments had taken place since I last heard about it but as far as I can tell, there've been so many legal wrangles about who gets first dibs on using it, no-one's got it yet. I think, whoever does take over, they'll be removing the upper bit completely, to reduce capacity, but the main, solid bits, are staying - but I think that was planned from the outset. The real knickers-in-a-twist bit is whether the running track stays or not. The football clubs want it gone, so the crowd is closer to the pitch, but those pesky athletic bods keep interfering by applying to host tournaments there, contradicting what the majority of potential future-owners have said. It's already scuppered one wannabe world class jog-a-thon in 2015.

    Overall, the Olympic stadium's a shining example of good, old-fashioned Britfuckuppery. They've only had 7 years to sort all this out, after all.
