@moali- thats an awesome three panel comic. what medium did you use? i really dig the style.
@pauljholden- that is one of the best joker images i have seen. its funny and horrifying, which pretty much sums up the joker.
@Dextra- very awesome Phoenix. do you sketch it out before you do the digital colors?
@mojokingbee- your new comic project looks interesting, is it gonna be in color?

@imaginarypeople - Yeah, the figure I sketched out about a week before I did the digital painting, and the bird about a month or so ago. The bird was actually just a sketch I did on my tablet, and I just added some color to it as I was going along. It wasn't until a few days after doing the sketch of Jean that I said "Heeeeey. I've got an idea." And then that happened. This was the sketch of Jean initially:

I believe I have missed the entire month. The planet seems to be moving faster and faster. Very busy. Just heard about Tony Scott and it makes me sad.
In an attempt to actually get ICHIDO done before I am 100 years old I have switched to a digital workflow. Picked up a new tablet after retiring my 10 year old Graphire2. This is the first of hopefully many images coming soon for my book. Spoke with Steambot studios and they were very positive about what I have so far, they may even publish it.
Ichido is a sci-fi samurai comic.

@initiatezao - that is a really good digital take on your pencils. I might not have noticed it was all digital if you hadn't said anything, but now that you point it out, I can tell. You've always done some aftermarket blurring for very nice effect. Where the digital shows in this is in the lack of nodes of fine detail that your pencils brought. If it speeds you up, this is very good and absolutely will work. But for my taste, I kind of miss the detail and hope you'll find ways to work that in digitally as well.
I've been working out what to do with these mannikins that have been lurking around my drawings lately. This is not done yet, but here are some WIPs from tonight.

Nothing in this is from life. I haven't just drawn a person from my imagination in a while, and I'm sort of happy with what looks to me like an improvement in the personality coming through that imaginary face. I also see a little Neil Ford style around the mouth, which is probably because I've been looking at his drawings a lot today. -

Thanks Oddbill. Yea I think it is going to take a month or so to get used to how a tablet works as a pencil. I have only ever really used it to fuck a bit with the color and focal depth. Now it actually is the pencils. I'm hoping I can develop the skill to make it a better pencil than an actual pencil, which is going to take some practice. I have always felt certain limitations with the pencil that I can now fix with a key stroke. It will be fun to experiment, trying to shift some effort towards environmental studies in addition to the portrait stuff. -

Here's my sad contribution.
I’d been working on a self portrait of sorts; something to use on a business card or website background or something. It was to reperesent me, the fact that my hand are failing and I switch them up when I draw and paint, so between them they equal one hand; and my eyes which are failing and dilate asymmetrically and cross inwards. I’d posted a photograph of my pencil sketch, and a friend wanted it as a tattoo. So I inked it, scanned it, cleaned it up and fixed the proportions, and voila! My art, my own representation of me, is on someone’s skin for life. Weird, huh?

I did this mural a while back for a Toronto Councilman's office who was featured in the Toronto Star this week. It's really exciting for me to see my work fighting at city hall and a regular part of Toronto politics...

@Paul, you know as well as I: ditch the lines for a little bit and think in tones and your shapes will get better. You'll be able to do that "martian landing on earth" schtick for more of your figures.
Edited to add: (The figures do still look awesome, but if you're going for a more accurate proportional representation, squinting and drawing blocks of color/shade usually fixes it for me. I get too stuck on THIS MUST BE A PERSON and forget that it will still be a person if I stop thinking of it as one. WAX ON. WAX OFF.) -
