Jumped in on Winter’s Tales a collaborative comics art project by Kelly Sue DeConnick and a young girl called Winter. (secret origin story: here.) Who can resist ninja princess rockstars and zombies? not me.
Definitely some good work Paul, especially with the lighting, I struggle with shadows, I really have to push myself to to get the dark shadows in there like NeilFord, D.Miranda and No Cuddle (great work all).
I couldn't agree more with DorkMuffin, I really have to push the outline thing out of my head when in a life drawing class. The angry German lady making 'tsk-tsk' noises behind me helps.
Dude, not as good when we have dude model. For some reason they never seem as relaxed as most of the women models, but even an uptight female model can kill the vibe of the room. It's interesting to me how much the mood for the model can effect the artists.
Hey so people, I digitally released the comic I've been working on this year, Hecate Snake Diaries, today. So if you liked me over here. You probably will like me over there.
Here's my blurb for it: HECATE SNAKE DIARIES 40 pgs/Full Color/$1.99/PDF Preview
“Hecate Snake Diaries is a horror comic anthology of short writings by Sarah Horrocks in which she negotiates the primordial experiences of love, depression, loss, and death. Available for the first time in one collection; these disturbing trips of bleeding dark acid explore the human subconsciousness by pulling from influences that include: German expressionism; Italian fumetti; French bande dessinée from the 1970s; and modern seinen manga. As a result of these disparate influences Horrocks achieves an aesthetic-narrative consequence similar in feel to a witch house music video—all the while maintaining a unique and powerful vision all her own.
As a bonus feature for the digital collection: a small gallery of artwork produced during the production of Hecate Snake Diaries is also included”
Yes, Argos we went last year. That's me and my girlfriend (and our dog) I painted into the poster. Going again this year but hoping for slightly cooler weather. You?
@No Cuddle Time - we're missing out this year. Edgar was invited to be a DJ again but I got tickets to see George Takei's musical for my birthday and it happens to be for the same weekend, so we're doing that.

True; my hang up this time really was going for the finished outlined drawing rather than building the form from the inside out. From that, I think next week I am going to bring less fussy tools, tools to make bigger, broader marks, to force me to draw more dimensionally. Part of the reason I was keen to attend these sessions was to break my usual race to the final render mentality and concentrate on the underdrawing.
@imaginarypeople thanks Justin, it was a pencil sketch which I scanned and painted in Photoshop, there's no set process I use though, more experimentation than anything..
