Put all the new, or newish upcoming, emerging or making new noise Hip Hop artists here.
That's NEW.Or having a resurrection of epic proportions that they are considered new (Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco)
So no Nas, Tupac, Jay-z and all those established mainstream artists. This is not a thread about obscure artists either. If they have a major record deal but are "fresh" off the shelf...then that's ok too!
Make them good! Let's go! My contribution:
First up is an artist having an epic resurrection-Lupe Fiasco. Incredible lyrical wordplay over a reworking of They Reminisce Over You [T.R.O.Y] by Pete rock.
Lupe Fiasco - "Around my Way" (Freedom aint Free)
Next is rick ross's secret weapon, in his roster of artists-Stalley. Resurrecting the Boom Bap Era of hip hop. Jazz and Hip hop, always good!
My current favorite up-and-coming rapper is Angel Haze - she had a couple of mixtapes out last year, and a free EP out a few months ago (and as of last week or so a record deal with Universal). She has some really great introspective lyrics:
Ok, not to let this become urban centric Hip Hop out of the cities, we should highlight some of the new Hip Hop artists from the Countryside. First up, a man who hasn't made a bad song yet.... Big K.R.I.T
Big K.R.I.T-"i Got This"
Big K.R.I.T -"Country ....(Remix)"
and the last time country and Hip Hop actually blended and worked since that Nelly and Mcgraw song. A sad introspective song about the passing of time.A new darkhorse MC that might just go fully mainstream being so unusual...
A real alternative MC.He has his own Swag.He comes across as someone very comfortable in his own skin.which is an unusual description, but thats what comes across for me.
So here is the Infamous Asher Roth Hip Hop Self Motivation song. This should be on everyone's alarm clock when getting up...
As for the next song..how he mananged to edit and composite himself so seemlessly into the original Jay-Z "The Roc boys" video then do a remix of that song which might be better than the one by Hova. Is a thing of wonder...
Asher Roth - "Roth Boys"
This song is not about the evils of narcotics, but lack of quality hip hop craftmenship on Radio.Lack of quality overall and having to dumb down.Jazz and hip Hop. Boombap genre hip hop once again wins...
Newish NYC crew. with self contained producers. All their songs are nice.FACT! Here is a brilliant re-imagining/remix of the classic De La soul record "Stakes is High" Jazzy, but with bite. All MCs bring their A-game.
The duo who helped kick start the Jerking movement worldwide with the NEW BOYZ with their song "teach me how to jerk" , actually had some half decent songs, more on the entertainment side of Hip hop (hey we're dancing!), but i feel they've been unfairly overlooked from the New generation of Hip Hop artists.
Don't know much about this guy, but i loved the song below and the video is even better, i love it when they do a black and white video right. In pure HD goodness! beautiful...
This guy should be huge. I just don't understand why it hasn't happened yet! He's like a version of DRAKE that the intelligensia might like. An accessible version of THEWEEKEND. He's a singer, MC, producer, Remixer, dammit he even edited the Swim well video below.
First up it's "she was", anybody who samples the love unlimited orchestra is good in my books. This is a cool storytelling song about the consequences of being shy. First time I heard it I listened all the way right to the end of the predictable punchline ending of the song.
BEI MAEJOR - "She Was"
It's like, if THEWEEKEND looked like DRAKE and made a song both THEWEEKEND and DRAKE might both like. I like this song too...
BEI MAEJOR - "Mesmerised"
How dare he...even attempt ..attempt !!.to remix Frank Ocean "swim good"... It will only end in tears...wait...actually, its so good....it might be better than the original..The video's definately better than Franks. And I lIke Frank Ocean. Please just do a callabo and get it over with....
