Moving this to it's own thread since the Getting There thread is still open:
OUT OF PLACE, OUT OF TIME 2
Welcome to the next installment of Out of Place, Out of Time. For those of you who were published in the first book, you know what this is all about. For the rest of you, I’m sure you’ve see something similar to this before.
First a few changes from last time:
1) I am doubling the max word count from 1000 to 2000. Hear that? We’re capping these stories at 2000 this time. Go nuts with that extra thousand words. 2) I, personally, will not be doing anywhere near the amount of stories that I did for the last book. It was fun, but I just don’t have the time and I felt kind of strange dominating the last edition. That being said, I’m hoping we can get significantly more entries this time around so that the book is still approximately the same size.
So here are the rules: - Write a story about someone who is OUT OF PLACE. How you interpret that is up to you, and half the fun. - I am looking for an absolute minimum of 10 contributors other than myself to write 2000 (max) words on this subject. Hopefully we get closer to 30 to make this a robust collection. - Submitters are allowed to send me up to three (3) stories. - I am going to make the due date October 1, 2012. - Send submissions to steevo83 at the gmail dot commz. - I do reserve the right to reject any stories at my discretion, however, I trust you lot to send me good work, so I doubt I'll have to use that caveat.
As I said last year, I would love to pay you all for this, and I might just if I can strap together the cash, but chances are pretty good that I won’t have that kind of loot… What I can promise this time is, at the very least a free e-copy, and hopefully a physical edition for each contributor as soon as the books hit print. If you have any question at all, feel free to ask on Whitechapel or email me directly. We had a great response last year and hopefully this year’s edition will be even better.
I've gotten a few submissions of rough drafts so far, good work guys. Is anyone that hasn't spoken up yet interested in submitting on this go around? I'd love to be able to kind of gauge about how many subs we're going to get so I can start to do a little layout preparation.
FYI, everyone - I think I'm going to push back the due date on this as I've had a really busy month with some family/personal obligations and I don't think I'm going to have my own stories ready by then. So let's make the new due date Nov 1 instead of Oct. 1. That'll give me a little bit of time to get my shit in order and work on any edits of everyone else's stories to be sent out.
I will get my replies back to everyone as soon as I can. Sorry for the delay on my part!
So I just posted on Facebook, but I figured I'd throw this up here as well. We've got about 7 or 8 stories right now, I'd like to be much closer to 20 in order to fill a proper physical copy, so if anyone wants to contribute, we'd love to see more entries.
Rules, and etceteras at the top of this thread...Hope to hear from some of you fine folks.
Hey everyone, I know it's been a long time. I've got what I think is going to be the final (fantastic) lineup unless someone else wants to send in some last minute entries to beef the book up a little. I'm going to allow story submissions until I'm done editing.
As we stand right now, this isn't really book sized so I may just go with an ebook format. Still pondering that. Anywho, here's the list. A big thank you to Janos, Ian, Shawn and Scott, your stories have been a blast to read through and I can't wait until everyone can get their hands on them.
If I've missed anyone's story, please let me know. My email is an ever growing beast, difficult to tame on the best days and absolutely impenetrable on the worst.
Stories Received: Apis Cerana Japonica – Janos Honkonen Ichneumon – Janos Honkonen The Colonel – Shawn Scott Smith Moonbounce – Ian Campbell Cognitive Dissonance – Scott Thurlow Paid Vacation Time – Scott Thurlow For Science, You Monster – Scott Thurlow The Story of East (Working Title) – Steven Ormosi Refuge (Working Title) – Steven Ormosi (As yet untitled third story) – Steven Ormosi
I guess I owe everyone an explanation for the delay on this.
My excuses are two-fold: 1) I have a friend who is working on a story for the anthology, unfortunately there are some mitigating circumstances in his case, which I am willing to wait out for him. He is a heckuva writer and I want to offer him every opportunity I can at this point because (without saying too much) his opportunities are incredibly limited right now. I've told him to get something to me as soon as he can and I know he is doing his best.
2) In addition to that, I have been doing some other work lately and this project has had to be shifted to the backburner. I want everyone to know that while I know this has been taking FOREVER and despite the fact that I am a terrible person and cannot tell you when it will be released, please know that I still remember! and it will be released eventually!
If anyone has any questions or comments or concerns or whathaveyous, feel free to voice them here or send them to me at steevo83 at gmail dot com.
PS. I also wanted to apologize for leaving someone off of the previous list: The great short story Moonrise by Allen Wiggs will be included in the collection as well.
