Seen this movie a couple handful of times and it is still funny (just watched again tonight). What are the movies that turn your crank like this one turns mine? I'm looking for funny movies that can use repeated viewings.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World is on my list, though I am led to believe there are some people out there that didn't like it (heathens). Also: Doctor Strangelove and anything by the Marx brothers.

Unfortunately, most of popular Python has become so oft-quoted as to ruin it for me. I still find much enjoyment in the lesser known stuff, though, primarily because I either haven't seen it before, or I've only seen it a few times (the shock value is higher).

The Princess Bride seems obvious to add to the list, though it's perhaps been seen by me a few times too many at this point. Once you have an entire film memorized, you should probably pick up something else.

My little brother was obsessed with A Christmas Story one summer when he was little, and watched it at least once a day for around a month. Despite this, that movie still makes me laugh. It holds up pretty well, all things considered.

Most of the films I've watched again and again, apart from the one's already mentioned and the one that is the title of this thread, are Jane Austin-y or musicals. So I guess I'll leave it at that.

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. If you appreciate the movie's foundational gag, it stands up extremely well to multiple viewings. It's even better if you enjoy the music of Devo and Bowie.

I generally hate watching any film more than once, unless I put at least a couple of years between viewings.
Exception to that rule: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

@Morac: I agree about Python. I think the Holy Grail stands up better than Life of Brian though, because people only qoute a couple of bits maybe?

The Big Lebowski, obvs, but I love The Royal Tenenbaums (though The Life Aquatic is a close second).

In The Loop and Best In Show both leave me knackered afterwards - from both laughing and cringe-squirming.

Does Brazil count as a comedy?

Well, I'm not much of one for a lot of comedies and most of my favorites have already been listed, but I find Snatch is always good for a laugh - very quick dialogue and ridiculous scenes. More recently I must admit that Your Highness was stupidly amazing and holds up much better than it should.

@Ben Klumaster- when I was in highschool, the grade above me was obsessed with the movie to the point where history class was more about repeating as much of the movie as you could than anything that it was supposed to be about. >,> So I think you're rather lucky. That being said- it holds up, even after all that :)

I <3 Huckabees is something I can watch over and over.

(RE: Python - I used to love it all. Can't watch it any more because I've watched it too much. The humor has become too familiar, and nothing surprises. Same problem with all the Douglas Adams things. I get the jokes, but they seem more clever than funny because there is no more surprise. Both Python and Adams humor machinery is too obvious for me.

That said, I was camping a couple of years ago and a scouting troop was camped nearby. I woke up one morning to some 14 year old boys cracking each other up by essentially reciting the whole screenplay of Holy Grail back and forth to each other. I felt the torch had been appropriately passed, and all was right in the world.)

@mjmartinejohn: I didn't want to say In Bruges because I've only seen it twice, but on the second watching I got a distinct feeling I would be watching it for years to come.
I like the way some films are rewatchable because they're so dense with material that there are always things that take you by surprise (Aardman seem pretty good at it, probably because it takes them so much work per second of film anyway) while others just have moments so well delivered that remembering it never comes close to the experience of seeing it again.

Man, so many of these movies are classics in my mind, but there are a couple that I have never seen. That makes me super jacked to hit Suspect video and get me some movies.

In Bruges wins for the solid dialogue alone.

Ghostbusters, obviously. There was a year there where I wanted to be Peter Venkman when I grew up.

V for Vendetta. Maybe not the whole movie, but the bit where Evie is in Prison and gets the toilet paper notes. I don't know exactly why, but something about the way this lesbian girl reached out to share her life story and offer a bit of love and comfort to another person is just great. Especially since by doing this she unwittingly unleashed this terrifying force of retributive justice that ultimately destroyed those who murdered her. It just makes me well up a little bit.

Already mentioned but ALWAYS great - Spinal Tap. Dr. Strangelove ("Mine-shaft gap", "precious bodily fluids" "take it up with the Coca Cola company"), The Big Lebowski (DUH! Greatest movie ever made).

WAITING FOR GUFFMAN. Better than Best in Show.
IN THE LOOP. Malcolm Tucker for the fucking WIN.
PULP FICTION & RESERVOIR DOGS. The two best movies of the 1990s.
HEATHERS. I was OBSESSED with this movie.

I could watch WIZARD OF OZ and SINGIN' IN THE RAIN with my eyes closed and tell you what comes next.
