    What, the Chooky Dancers? They're great, aren't they! It's not "my" video, mind, it went viral ages ago. I've never been up to Elcho myself, the closest I ever got was Tennant Creek. One of those isolated spots that's oddly full of talented people, it seems - Gurrumul is from Elcho too.

    German Catholics lose church rights for unpaid tax
    Germany's Roman Catholics are to be denied the right to Holy Communion or religious burial if they stop paying a special church tax.
    All Germans who are officially registered as Catholics, Protestants or Jews pay a religious tax of 8-9% on their annual income tax bill. The levy was introduced in the 19th Century in compensation for the nationalisation of religious property.
    Until now, any German Catholic who stopped payment faced eventual excommunication. Although the measures laid out in the decree are similar to excommunication from the church, German observers say the word is carefully avoided in the decree.

    And nobody in Germany sees anything wrong with the concept of registering as a Jew ? I'm just asking. Not to mention the fact that there seem to be "official" and unofficial" religions.

    Well the synagogues benefits from the 8-9% tax so I'm guessing not. Plus why would they see a problem? You can opt out. No-one in York sees a problem with putting Jew on the census.

    Edited to say in contrast with the UK Germany doesn't have a state religion, though different areas are either more catholic or protestant.
