    Comic I'll get - Hellblazer #295

    Hardcover I'll buy - 100 Bullets Vol. 3

It's been about a month since I've checked in at the shop, so I'll take a look at the 50% off bin to see if anything else catches my eye.
  4.  (10834.6)
Is it just me, or are the people that post what they're buying on here getting less and less lately?
  5.  (10834.7)
yes and no...theres definitely less response, but i think its more down to WCs reduced traffic and general lack of interaction.
theres really no driving force here anymore besides spurrier popping into to say literally 'come shill with me' and i dont think it really engenders the same level of discourse, participation and belonging that there once was.

I don't post what I'm getting cause most weeks I don't get anything at all.
  6.  (10834.9)
Sorry Joe, I worded that wrong.

To the people that post what they're buying: Is it just me, or are all of us buying less comics compared to a year or two ago?

I'm not buying any less than I was a year ago. I tend not to by singles unless they really interest me. For instance, the only single I'm buying every single month is Prophet, and since it's started Godzilla Half Century War, of which I'll buy #2 on Weds.
I'll look at Dark Horse Presents #0?
What the fuck is it with all these #0s this week, anyways?
None of the TPBs this week interest me.

and seriously, like joe.distort said, it's like a ghost town here, with a Mayor, and a sheriff you hardly ever see.
  7.  (10834.11)
Keith -- Sorry, typo. should be Dark Horse Presents #16.
As for the other ones: DC has decided, in their infinite wisdom, that not only are they going to confuse people by having some of their books... wait... sorry.. rant warning... I'll do that after a basic description:
Basic: All of the DC titles this week are going to be #0 to show origin stories for the characters based off of the new continuity.

Long version: DC has decided, in all of their infinite wisdom, to piss off and confuse their readers even more now. It's bad enough that they thought they had to go and say that everything that happened before the new 52 is gone and never happened (except for titles like Batwoman, and kind of Swamp Thing, Animal Man... probably a few others, but I don't pay enough attention... Oh, and the JLA Annual kind of implied that they may scrap the whole idea and go back to how it all was before the new 52 anyways, thus making it that they'll likely lose a fair amount of their new readers and probably not gain any of the old ones back...)
    Wait... where was I?
Got rid of many, many years of continuity... oh yeah! So, they're saying that none of the old continuity happened and to really hammer the point home that the new continuity is different, they're putting out 0 issues to show just exactly how different some of the back stories are. (Or something like that.)

Instead of create a whole new universe, I wish they had simply told the writers that if they wanted to have a story that included bits from older stories to write it that way and to tell the audience everything about the previous story that actually mattered so that if they wanted to, they could go back and buy the old issues / trade to get a more complete story as to what happened. And if the writer wanted to have something from the characters past come up that hasn't actually been written to just write it as if it had been and to, again, tell the audience enough of the story so that they know what's going on. And hey, if the writer is good enough, it might have fans going back trying to find a story that never actually happened.
I read something recently that did that... I wish I could remember what it was so that I could use it as an example. I'm pretty sure James Robinson did that for parts of his 94 - 01 Starman run. At the very least, I know he references things that happened in an Elseworld comic that he wrote in 93.

And that's why I only follow certain books, and no DC or Marvel.

oh, totally. between the way the big two have behaved, the majority of the readership getting older/jaded/burnt out/reading illegally/whatever, the drop has hit everyone i know. the only exception ive personally encountered is one friend of mine who stopped reading like 10 years ago and got interested in the DC relaunch. he now picks up a few New52 bat-books and the random indie horror-ish book here and there, where everyone else i know is just dropping stuff left and right

I usually don't post in these threads because, living as I do in the Scandinavian wilderness, I get books one month (if I'm lucky) after they're released in the States. But speaking more generally, I share a lot of the sentiments expressed here. I saw promise in some of the DC relaunch titles from the beginning - Justice League Dark, Frankenstein and some others seemed like really cool concepts - but a year on I don't see them going anywhere interesting and am now seriously considering giving them up. Which leaves me with… not that many books, really. I am pretty excited about the Fraction/Allred FF thing in November, though. Looks promisingly kooky. So I haven't completely succumbed to bitterness yet.

Rant warning. *cocks shotgun with a satisfying CHK-CHK*

DC Comics not only don't know what they're doing NOW, they NEVER DID. What do you KNOW about Superman? He flies? (Came from the Fleisher Bros. cartoons, NOT the comics.) Vulenrable to Kryptonite? (Came from the popular radio serial - the actor playing Superman wanted a vacation so the writers invented a substance that weakened him and the villain gloated for two weeks while somebody groaned in the background. The actor came back tanned, rested and ready. True story.) Jimmy Olsen is his pal? (First "appeared" on the radio.) "faster than a speeding bullet" and all that? (Radio.) Even when he DIED, in the comics, that was just a place-holder storyline to gobble up time until he got married on the tv show and they could tie it into the comic. Remember the Super-Mullet? The Electric Blue Dancing With The Stars Superman? THOSE WERE EXCLUSIVELY COMICS ADDITIONS. Seriously, fuck DC. No Donna Troy? Wally West? What the fuck is Red Robin? Jeeeeesus. Fuck DC. (I WILL NEVER FORGIVE GATLING GUNS ON A HORSE IN A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE WHOSE TITLE I CANNOT BRING MYSELF TO TYPE.)

Marvel's not quite as bad but fuck them too. If I have to spend four bucks on a comic, I better enjoy the hell out of it. I have no idea what MARVEL NOW is and I don't care to find out.

    What I'll Buy - THE SHADOW #5.

What I MIGHT Buy - the Before Watchmen titles, because I want to see how bad it can actually get. (I will only buy these if I pistol-whip and old lady or find a wad of cash on the gas station floor.)

    Rant over.

Just Batwoman #0 for me this week.

And currently i'm getting two DC books and one Marvel, and about 8 creator owned books (Chew, Manhattan Projects, Punk Rock Jesus), not counting Lady Mechanika or Loose Ends as the latter has one issue to go and it seems to be M.I.A. and the former is so late i've forgotten the story beyond the basic plot.

I read a good chunk of the DC books, and only dropped about 6 titles after the first year of the new 52. They're enjoyable superhero books for me, plain and simple. I would say what I buy is about 2/3 superhero/mainstream books to 1/3 creator owned stuff.

*stands up and applauds Mister Hex*
I might not share your passion, I might not agree with everything in there, hell, I might not see what the problem is with some parts of it... but man, the emotion behind that rant was amazing.

    Comics I'm buying:
    Batwoman #0.

    Ghost #0
