I just came back from visiting England where I said goodbye to the house I grew up in. It's a small cottage nestled on the side of a hill in the cotswolds. It's small, cold and surrounded by the very real threat of sheep. I lost my virginity there, learnt to play guitar there and generally acted like an utter bastard to my parents as a teenager there.

I will miss it intensely.

Hi guys !

Long time since I came to Whitechapel... Anyway, Last year, I made à 360° for the first and here is a video compilation of that year. Don't worry the vid only goes for 6.42 minutes.

And I'm keeping the discipline for another year ! Which is supposed to be more about "living things" or close to it ...

I must admit, I learned a lot about photography while doing this and it improved even my taste in photography and made it clearer about what I like or not. If you are hesitating about doing it ... just don't.

@Jehrot, I met them the second time I shot them! I talked to the drummer for a little while and he was SO SO SO NICE! I got to shoot them three times this year which was AWESOME. They put on such a good live show.

Uncle Warren started the seasonal bit back when the original photography thread became a bit unwieldy. Since he wandered off, I've tended to follow his pattern, starting new ones roughly every solstice and equinox (largely because traditional seasons are a bit of a running joke here in New Orleans, where the only three seasons we have are Tourist season, Hurricane season, and December, and those days are at nice, consistent intervals), but as I am entirely without authority and unapologetically lazy to boot, I will gleefully hand off responsibility for refreshing the thread to whoever wants it, and cheerfully encourage any experimentation with how long of an interval between thread reboots.

@wjd - not an user, so i have no skin in the game, but instagram just posted a typical "we are listening to our users" oh-shit notice stating:

it was interpreted by many that we were going to sell your photos to others without any compensation. This is not true and it is our mistake that this language is confusing. To be clear: it is not our intention to sell your photos.

The language we proposed also raised question about whether your photos can be part of an advertisement. We do not have plans for anything like this and because of that we’re going to remove the language that raised the question.

I'm happy with Flickr, in that I pay for it so I don't have to worry about my photographs not belonging to me. I'm kind of astounded at how many people use facebook as their photo album.

@256 - I'm not on FB either. A freind of mine kept on telling me to join Instagram because a lot of artists were on it. As soon as I signed up, the new terms of service thing happened so I Immediatly deleted the account. Turns out my first instict was correct. I'm still on Flickr though and I am happy with it (I even have the pay version).

IMO, 500px is more photographer-centric (as well as photographer-insular) in comparison to Flickr. I have used Flickr in the past, but switched over to 500px for more and more of my work. I like the look and feel of the interface better in comparison to Flickr, and enjoy trolling through the site to find artists and photos that I enjoy. It also has a fairly nice categorization to zero in on photo genre that are most cogent to your interests. The quality of work is generally pretty strong, particularly among items that are upvoted by the community.

The only downside to the place (it seems to me) is that the general public doesn't really know about it, or participate in it too much.

(And yep, I canned Instagram in the wake of this snafu...never used it with any degree of seriousness, but really that type of TOS language has no place in a photography application.)

The photographer-insular nature of 500px is a selling point for me. The downside is that most of the work is pretty bland -- there are only a few people doing weirder/darker work, and mostly a lot of nature shots. Then again, I do nature shots, so I can't really complain.
I like the interface of 500px, and I like the impetus to only put up my best work. Flickr feels like a photo-dump spot for me, and I found it really hard to find appreciative communities and followers. But I've neglected my 500px for a while, now, too, so my promotional abilities have dropped. They're both pretty reliant on the amount of work you put into them, I think.
