    gotcha.

The new Xbox and Playstation are definitely coming next year. Now former employer had specs and was shifting development on a few titles to the new systems. They're not going to just stop making games for the current consoles, though. There'll be at least a year of everybody still releasing PS3 games, and there's a possibility that the PS3 will have the same unexpected longevity that the PS2 had when the PS3 came out. That depends on the PS4's price point and feature set at launch, but given how much money Sony has been bleeding I expect that they'll go for the high price point again because they can't afford to sell a new system at too much of a loss.

Plus there'll still be that whole phase where no one knows how to make stuff that runs properly on the new machines, and all the games are either previous-generation-identical or valiant attempts to use new technology with wildly varying framerates.

Buying into this generation at this point boils down to one question, assuming you're already thinking about buying a console:

Do you own a Blu-Ray player?

If no, then PS3. If yes, then 'you really need to have lots of friends already playing 360 to take it over PS3'.

Finally finished XCom. For a game with almost no story to speak of (and the attempt that they made was pretty pitiful) I still rank this as one of the best games of the year. That's right, on par with Mass Effect 3. Of course, I think there is a lot of personal bias in this verdict, as I am very partial to both emotionally resonant experience and tough as nails tactical gameplay (Mass Effect 3 I beat on Insanity, and XCom I played through in Iron Man mode, which means no reloading of earlier saves - every decision is a lasting matter).

Also, I highly recommend naming all of your squad members after people you know. It's a very fun way to play, especially when coupled with Iron Man mode. The odd thing about XCom is that for it to really work, you kind of have to meet it half way, adding in your own personal emotional connections. The game gives you very good tools for exploiting these connections, but offers little to establish them in the first place.

Just finished the season finale to Telltale's "The Walking Dead" game series. Will definitely be buying the second season when/if it comes. The game's slightly clumsy in places, but damn, the experience is so worth it. I got a little misty-eyed at the end. I hear others have straight-up bawled.

Sweet! I guess you don't have to sell your XBox this way, either.

Awesome. Picked up the Infamous/Uncharted bundle this week. I haven't unpacked it yet but looking forward to it. I've been putting off picking up a ps3 for years, and have been happy with other systems, but there are too many exclusives that I want to play and more friends using PSN that I don't get to see often. Now, what the hell am I gonna sell to pay for this?

Finally picked up Battlefield 3 since it was on sale on Origin for 12 bucks. Of course everybody who's still playing it has unlocked everything and knows how it all works, so I'm kind of stinking up the joint when I play. Still pretty fun, though.

Just beat Uncharted 3 which was a definite step down from Uncharted 2, but still a good game.

Went kind of wild with the Steam sale and picked up:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2
    Orcs must Die! 2
    NightSky
    Braid
    Spacechem
    Aquaria
    Psychonauts
    Legend of Grimrock
and Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery EP which looks really cool.

    all for under 50 bucks.

I would've picked up Civilization V if I didn't already have it. 8 bucks for that game is insanely worth it.

Pretty annoyed that the Mass Effect trilogy set for PS3 is now coming out in February instead of on my birthday next week. Was only in the middle of 2 when my Xbox died and I'm anxious to play my shep through all three.

Got Assassin's Creed 3 for $25 off a black Friday sale, also Dishonored and some other things from the Steam sale. I also have a bunch of work I need to get done, but fuck everything because video games.

    My life is hard.

The Pinball Arcade is $5 on PSN+ this week, and it's cross-play for PS3/Vita so you get both versions with the one purchase. I made the mistake of buying the 360 version, which has been met with endless delays in updating the table packs. So, do I want to continue waiting for the eventual PC version or just say hell with it and go PS3? Decisions, decisions...

I know I am late to the game on this one, but just picked up Bastion. Thank you Steam sale! Great game so far. Fun game play, awesome soundtrack, and wonderful aesthetic. I am thoroughly enjoying this.

I've been playing Rage since I got it in a sale the other week. It's an okay game, and I'm just trying to get as much of it done as I can before I discard it. Some of the minigames are complete bullshit and clearly only there as filler. The whole thing feels a bit like a demo for something bigger and better.

New Humble Bundle! From THQ of all people. Currently has Saints Row 3, Company of Heroes 2 and expansions, Metro 2033, Darksiders, and Red Faction: Armageddon. The first three are excellent games, and I haven't played the other two.

Sorry Mac & Linux people, this bundle is Windows and Steam only.

Oddly, I'm seeing some surprising backlash against this bundle on my twitter feed.

    Putting this here.

I can sort of see why there would be a backlash, reading the games list it sort of looks like a shark-jump, like they're now really just another bargain bin.
Also, god dang, I bought SR3 only two days ago.
