Hello Whitechapellians;
The COSTUME PARTY season is upon us. Whether that would be Halloween for Yanks and westerners, or uh...well some other occasion for the rest, the season is here.
I NEED A COSTUME. I'm a fat pasty white guy who never does ...well, anything creative. WHITECHAPEL, share your costume ideas. For me, for my awesomely sexy and svelte plus one, for my cats and dogs.
Make it an art thread, make it an idea thread, who cares. JUST DO IT -
To begin:
Unfortunately I'm not an artist. The concept of my costume is: [PING]. As in...the thing that tech support tells you to do to see if your router is online. Aside from dressing in a full body black catsuit and carrying a handful of pingpoing balls, and flinging them against people, then laboriously explaining the concept, though..I'm at sea. -
If you did that to me at a party, I would buy you a drink. Haha.

You only need one ping pong ball, attached to your wrist on a long elastic string. When you bounce it off someone it needs to come back to you. In your other hand you should have a stopwatch, which you use to time how long it takes to travel to and back from your target.
This is your routine:
Walk up to someone you know and declare:
"Pinging (insert name of friend) with 32 bytes of data!"
Then you bounce your ball off them 4 times, while timing each bounce, all the while narrating:
"Reply from (insert name of friend) bytes equal 32 time equals (say the number of seconds, probably just 1)"
If you ever miss them, or fail to catch the ball, announce:
"Ping request could not find host!"
If you dress all in black, with a black t-shirt that has a command prompt:
C:\Users\Finagle (or your real name)
Printed on it (make one from cafe press) then you can tell people you are a Command Window. -

My favorite other costume I've never done is "movie theater floor," but kids won't get it these days. It was a throwaway line on an old MST3K episode - black shirt and pants with gum, popcorn, candy wrappers and a soda cup stapled to it. -

I usually just buy a generic slutty girl costume, although most people don't find a bearded guy in drag showing alot of skin nearly as funny as i do, apparently. -

I was tempted to try and put together a 'Captain ****' from NextWave for the comic con at the end of the month, as it's close enough to normal clothes that I wouldn't feel embarrased in public wearing it, hehe. -

I'm a sucker for zombie makeup costumes. They're usually within my budget (thrift store clothes, liquid latex, fake blood, cheap makeup kit and toilet paper) and so fun to learn to do. My girl and I did it a few years ago and it turned out really well, I think.
Might do it again this year. -

@Flaybo: One year I planned as going as Tabby but only managed the coat and never managed to get the rest of her outfit right. If I got a Euro tee and a sweet electric guitar case, I could probably do Eliza Bloodstone. I'd just need to lose a crap-load of weight and suddenly have much bigger boobs and much longer hair.
@Finagle: Forbush man would be fabulous too.
I have no idea what I am going to do this year. I'm actually kind of surprised I haven't had any plans yet. Though I imagine like most years, it's going to be a character that most people haven't heard of (in real life). -

IO9 have done their annual roundup of crappy and slutty store bought Halloween costumes.
Useful if only to decide what NOT to do I guess...
Do people really buy these things?
