Well, the art in your comic is lovely, but dude, you're coming across as kinda creepy and needy here.

Warren owes you nothing. Just because you liked and bought his books and joined in his message board, it doesn't mean that he has to give you the pat on the back you seem to want as validation.

I mean, it's great you've got your comic out and everything, but he gave you some sound advice back there. He's also done as much as anyone to help out new creators and there are people I can think of working right at the top of the industry now who probably wouldn't be there if it hadn't been for his help and advice. Hell, he's had a pretty strong impact on my career, but I've realised that instead of wanting to make comics, I want to go back to college to get NCTJ accreditation so that I can do more of the activist journalism stuff I've been doing already and turn that from something I can't dare put my name to for risk of it affecting my dayjob, into an actual career I can be proud of.

But now, I don't give a fuck what he thinks of me and I've nothing to prove to him. Which is probably what someone like that would be far happier to see.

So, ya know, keep working, keep doing it, stop giving a shit. Yeah, sure, a recommendation from Wozza is a huge help in getting people to read your comic, but did you do all this just to get his approval? Or to tell stories you want to tell?

@ MH - Everyone called Warren is called Wozza. Everyone called Karen is called Kazza. It's a law, or something, that you replace 'aren' sounds with '-ozza' or '-azza' in personal names.

    @ CG - Quite.

Note: Most of the comments in that post were made a couple years ago, and Martin says near the end that he knows "how irrational I have been about this whole thing, and what an asshole I've been as well."

One important lesson to be gleaned from this is not to say "this is the last you will hear from me" unless you really are going to let it drop at that point. :)

I consider myself lucky that I never really cared what Warren might think of me or my work. I've liked a lot of his stuff, I've enjoyed a couple of the various forums he's operated, and I've appreciated some of the nuggets of wisdom he dispenses. But he's just this guy, you know? He certainly isn't someone I'd look to for affirmation or support for what I'm doing, because what I'm doing isn't his thing. What he's done for me (in addition to entertaining me as a reader) was to introduce me to the other creators on The Engine, many of whom I've tagged along with to Panel & Pixel, and now to SequentialWorkshop.com (and also here). I'm not particularly concerned about whether they like my work, either (they also aren't my audience) but they've been great people to bounce ideas off and learn from.

Cleansing this thread with the sweet fires of SINK. Something a bit itchy about the whole thing.

Please, enough of the stalker comments, guys. I really don't think that's what it is. It sounds like someone who really invested a lot of respect for Warren and a huge love of his work and felt let down when the real Warren, at some point, clashed with Martin's ideal of him. He took it badly, sent a couple of e-mails and tweets, admitted he didn't handle things great and eventually channeled it in to making a comic "I'll fucking show him" style. He didn't follow him home or carve Spider Jerusalem glasses on to people's faces and send pictures.

While I think the way people handle things are different, I find it hard to believe that others here haven't been in a similar situation with their heroes where they found themselves disillusioned or letdown by the realization that the person didn't match the ideal.

Also, according to the Urban DIctionary "Wozza" means...
"The appitomy of everything that is STD ridden, brought on by sleeping with endless amounts of gribblers (see gribbler), unprotected, usually fat mingers, anally."

It also says "Magnus" is "A name that you call someone if you think they are fat and ugly and are the most stupid person you know. mostly used if the person your talking about is there so he dont know your talking about him. or just a way to insult him."

So I guess it's pretty accurate.
