    Gold star for you.

Her face has a rash, though. Theirs were slashed. There are a few really intriguing implications here.

Have to say, this episode is one of my favourites so far. Worth it for the centaur rights thing alone.

Wonder if she slashed her face and got infected on purpose.

Give Hayama a gold star, folks.

This episode did make one thing clear - Shaky's nun friend is almost certainly the one who has been organizing the Crossed in the area, and so is probably responsible for their unusually organized behavior. The scars on the soldier's faces that Hayama pointed out are likely a tribute to her, then.

By the looks of her boat, she's become something of a religious figure to them somehow, so she's obviously still 'in the business', as it were. Or as close to it as plusfaces will ever get.

Point being, she's obviously some new iteration of the Crossed phenomenon, and that is VERY INTERESTING...

Well, anyone who would immediately defy the Gamekeeper and "survive"...

She has obviously learned the old order is NO MORE... and she has found horrible new ways to adapt.

And I also find it interesting that Shaky has had a chance to put a bullet in her at least once, and has hesitated. Course, that could just be down to the difficulty of aiming from the back of a moving speedboat, or ammo preservation, or not wanting to draw further attention, but still ... interesting.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet there's no force on earth that would have let Shaky make that shot outside of pure blind luck. On the boat, that gun is better as a telescope than weapon, unless the target is very very large and fragile.

Oh, and I second No Fear's question- how much leeway is there in wandering outside of standard Crossed rules?

Re-read the first episode. Shaky's range is far shorter than his view.

Edit to add: it is interesting that he hasn't told anybody either about what he saw, which adds to the nightmarish aspect.

I'd kept thinking that it wasnt the nun Shaky saw and recognised but having looked again seems pretty conclusive that it is her. So it can't be coincidence she is in that neck of the woods so I reckon she was with Shaky probably right up to near the end, certainly she knew where he was headed or the general vicinity anyway. Shaky said he had done some terrible things and also that he never realised how brave she had been until the end. Im guessing Shaky is the reason she got infected either through something he did or just plain inaction on his part - maybe could have saved her but saved himself sort of thing. So she has come to repay the compliment. Not sure why she has a different facial scarring going on, but I'm going to stick my neck out and say it is not significant in of itself, just a variation as to the appearance of the virus or whatever caused the crossed infestation. It's significance may be as to how other Crossed react to it. I'd been doubtful as to the religion aspect but as someone pointed out the dead soldiers in an earlier chapter had the X cut into their faces. And that cant be a coincidence.
Personally, cannot wait to the next instalment and if the Gamekeeper is also alive and infected, well there could be major problems developing further down the line. Oh, I liked the new artwork too which want too dissimilar to the art from the first season.

My first guess when it was suggested that The Crossed were acting differently was that uninfected people were killing Crossed, flaying off their faces and wearing them as masks.

The truth it seems is probably going to be much, much worse.

My new theory: the nun voluntarily infected herself by cutting an X into her face.

Kosmopolit: Well, wearing someone else's face as a mask won't ever really look like it's just a face. For vivid examples, see both the second and (especially) the third Crossed TPBs.

And if the nun voluntarily cut an X into her face to infect herself, wouldn't that leave her with a starface? 'Cause of the Crossed infection also giving her the cross-rash? Of course, this is a crazy disease that makes people serial gore rapists, so I guess it's hard to say that that's a definite "rule".

IMO the nun's either (a) a new strain of Crossed, (b) not Crossed at all but faking it and/or just crazy (not likely for earlier stated reasons), or (c) a figment of Shaky's guilt-ridden imagination (and the X-scarred grenademouths can be explained by the same, unless someone else in the party commented on it and I missed it). Dude's not getting a lot of sleep, as he mentioned.

the X's are VERY INTERESTING, and it's not voluntary. ( my guesses ). I think they're a new breed of Crossed, more hierarchical. The author hints that the crossed can change their behavior ( Shaky in one of the flashback episodes , notes that the crossed CHANGE when there are fewer victims around. ) Just wondering if this new X's mutation will make its way into other Crossed Books ( Badlands? )

They have always been capable of SOME organisation and hierarchical behaviour - remember Horsecock, from the original series? This just seems... more cunning I suppose. Better planned.

Everyone's already got the action figures with the crosses on their faces. They've got to give the retailers something new to go on the shelves this Christmas.

It's not really relevant, but I've been printing this out at the I.T. Room at rehab. Why do people only look at the monitor I'm using when there are only sick images on display? People here now think I'm some twisted, horrible soul. Not doing myself much favors, eh?

    Fuck 'em!

My wife glanced over while I was reading Crossed #1, right on the page where rage-zombies are raping a family to death. Her only comment was "Awesome horror art!". I love being married to a goth chick.

I think the nun is infected with a new strain. Whether it gives her more enhanced abilities regarding planning, foresight, leadership remains to be seen. Jacksons anecdote about crossed retreating from him is intriguing. Thats's hardly their usual MO.

I suspect Shakey has given us a hint about how this arc is going to play out. He specifically mentions that they didn't go back to Cava to report on the crossed decoy. This is significant & suggests to me that the sortie group survive relatively intact & return home to the aftermath of horrific attack.

I think that Shaky was just hallucinating and going insane when he thought he saw that nun with the unusual variation of the cross on her face, and that's why he volunteered to go out on a limb on this otherwise selfless mission, so that he can redeem himself (for what I think is his complicity in doing nothing to prevent his former group's leader from victimizing her (I suspect rape and murder are involved)) and recover his sanity in the process.
