Not coming. Last-minute "schedule adjustment" by the US government - because the sods are unable to deliver my new ID on time. This makes me kind of melancholic, as I'd love to have a drink or seven with you.
@Si - I'll be there Saturday. I will most assuredly come and say hello at the Avatar booth. Also, feel more than free to crash any meetup we may hammer out at the SHODDY DOWN LIST NON-STICK thread.
My immigration status precludes my attending anything outside the Canadian border, but I and the rest of the Toronto chapter will happily take you pub crawling if you care to scoot up north for a couple of days.
Si: I'm afraid I can't make it to New York to be a drinking mate. But I bet you'll be visiting the booth with the 2000AD/Dredd signings! They're probably tying that in with the new Dredd movie.
I will be at the con Sunday, in NYC every day (derp, I live here) and will happily stalk you down.
As for the who what wheres of eating, I know a number of fine dining places, none of which are near the Javits Center because that place is an unholy pit of despair. Depends on what your tastes are - there's Wonjo, a korean BBQ place that is open at all hours and is best for large groups of people, Minetta's Tavern is quite expensive but has some of the best damn burgers and bone marrow, etc etc. I do not specialize in non-meaty places.
Depending on how long you'll be in the city, can bring up a few places to visit. Do note that if you're thinking of doing the museums/arts things on Monday after the con everything cultural will be closed.
Hell's Kitchen? Not to mention a lot of swearing and theatrics as well as kind of pricey food, then. I wonder if somebody'll snag Gordon Ramsay's autograph?
Anyone have any cool non-con ideas for something to do during the day on Friday? I waited too long and couldn't get Friday tix...wanna spend some time soaking up the culture and whatnot. Also, getting drunk.
I won't go. Just wanted to say that I hope everyone has a good time, and that you come back with tales of adventure, drinking, and horror. Probably not in that order, though. :)
@Si - I must've swung by the Avatar booth about 6 times, but I missed ya every time. Noooooooooo.
Had a damn good weekend. Hung out with Spike3185 for a while. Caught up with some friends I haven't seen in a while and a few that I see all the time. Now to rest my feet and legs after about 24 hours of walking between Friday and Saturday.
