A Huge and heartfelt "Thank you" you to Warren and Paul for this. I just did the whole lot in one go, and while I hesitate to claim it's the best Comic I've ever read, I cant think of a single title that I'd actually place higher than this. I remember getting blown away by Sandman when it first came out, following Hellblazer for years, Animal Man, The Invisibles, Swamp Thing on and off since Alan Moore's run. Watchmen, V for Vendetta, Sin City, plus various Vertigo titles, and I don't think any of them had the impact of FreakAngels. And Paul's art is just fucking exquisite. Every single panel delivers, and the four panel pages work beautifully with Warren's "dialogue only" writing style. No wasted words here at all. I can't remember being so involved with a plot, since reading the Invisibles, but I enjoyed this far more. (Not least, because Warren never suggested that we all have a wank halfway through)
All the best stories have at their heart, the theme of redemption, and this is no exception. But Warren's handling of the morality issues in FA shows a depth of human understanding that is rarely seen in any form of literature.
Arkady, and Kait for top characters. Kait's Quincy crush made me laugh a lot. Liked the torture pit too. Gave her character some cool crazys.
Once again, thanks guys.

Warren and Paul aren't around anymore these days (we belong to Si Spurrier and his art-monsters now), yet somehow... somehow I'm sure they know how you feel.
Welcome to Whitechapel, mate. Stick around a while. It's good for the soul.

I only really wanted to say thanks, but I think I might stick around. I just read Badlands 1-9, and I'm not sure exactly sure that that was so good for my soul. Two totally different post-apocalyptic scenarios. One, a testament to how redemption is always an option, if only we can manage to examine our motivation. FA deals with some pretty heavy issues, but they're never as difficult to deal with as our minds try to make them seem to us. Good and Evil are never the moral absolutes we like to think they are. There are options, and there are choices. Then they are gone. FA was full of hope.
And the other vision? That Boschian horrorfuck of Ennis's? Redemption is only noticeable in Badlands by it's utter absence. It dragged me right down into the filthy place. Pandora's Fairy of Hope, dragged from it's hidden refuge, nailed upside down to a tree, and skullfucked to death. I mean, I liked Ennis's dark side before. The twists of conscience, and pangs of remorse, or just the sweet, heady rush of white hot hate he makes his characters endure, that shit is funny in itself, but this? Oh, two people survived and get to Canada. That's not any kind of resolution.
The most disturbing thing for me, is once the initial brainrape trauma has worn off, the speculation starts .. . . not like "What the fuck did someone do to Garth Ennis that made his poor fractured mind wander into such a dark place", no that's his business, I understand that . . . . it's not it. . . . It was the vision of Ennis, rubbing the palms of his hands together in wide eyed twisted glee in chapter six, when that old murder-raper was "coming out". It was at that point that it's clear there's not going to be any plot device that can offer a balm for that kind of deep down stain. But you're too far in to like, just stop reading. That, is fucking Artistry! The Bastard!
