    Cara, your students sound amazing.

So it was a year ago, I guess, that we had our last themed photo non-competition - Drought.
I was doing class readings about photographic preservation, and shortly thereafter was procrastinating by trying to downsize last year's photo collection (16gb). And then I found the folder full of pictures of me covered in oatmeal and white glue, and then I was trying to make Caravaggios ....
    So, outtakes!

    Outtake by (allana) on 500px.com

    Another by (allana)) on 500px.com

Seriously, these photos are so gross.

@allana-You still look beautiful, I think it's impossible for you not to look beautiful.

And yes, I think my kids are amazing :) We won second place at the tournament and third overall for the season in our local forensics/debate league

    MY HOVEL

My whisky sodden pit of despair. It's normally pretty neat, but today it's not. At all.

    Day 20: Circles

No vanity on this one . . . I think the circles under my eyes could have their own zip code.

I could say the same for you, Cara! Circles or no, I think you're gorgeous.
(this is now the WC internet-crush thread, guys)

I did this photo ages ago, but as part of my going-through-last-year's-work thing, I did a re-edit. Does anyone want to help me out on which one's got a better mood?

@Allana, I THINK I like the one on the right more, but I want it to be a little lighter so I can see the rash/sores/was that poison Ivy or something? I remember when this happened.

But yeah, I like the mood on the right more, but I'm me, so I want it to be grosser. Right now you're touching on this interesting dichotomy between the body of a beautiful young woman and nasty disease shit. I feel like both the body and the detail on the rash need to be pushed. There's this great lighting that comes across the side of your breast in the left-hand one that I think could be carried over to the one on the right without sacrificing any of the chiaroscuro effect you're going for.
  4.  (10950.87)
@Allana - the one on the left, I think. Although I like really the blacked out background on the right as it masks the door out, the one on the left is, to me, more powerful as it's very raw and the flesh is very real. To sit on the fence, I'd perhaps be inclined to combine the two - dark background with lighter body.
  5.  (10950.88)
@Allana-Thank you. I like the one on the right better, the contrast is nice.

It's late January and it's 79ยบ out. Perfect bike weather. Sometimes it dosen't suck to live in Southern California.

@Allana: I agree with Dork on this one. I love the STYLE and FEEL of the right one, but I'm missing the detail you have in the left one. Feel free to keep it dark, but keep as much of the skin as possible away from absolute black. Maybe sharpen it a bit to add to the grossness? Maybe also kick the Curves around a bit to get a greenish tint to the mid shadows. :)

Great shot, though. Love the beauty/ disease thing going.

    All I see are TOES!

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I'm new to the increased drama of burning and dodging, so I'm really thankful to have some words to keep in mind.

There will always be more icky-skin-disease shots. (Though I regret not taking more of that particular rash when I had it.) My face seems to be blotching out from the extreme cold this week, and I'm sure I can make something of it.

@allana-This cold weather and dry air inside wrecks havoc on skin and lungs.
  13.  (10950.100)
@cara, i'm an asthmatic, allergic to the regular inhalers, and cold and dry is the weather i love, it can do what it likes to my skin as long as my breathing eases up
