    Eeeee cute ravens!

So it turns out the internet IS a series of tubes and here's the map of them.

"The internet is so omnipresent in most of our lives that it’s easy to forget about the vast physical network that supports it–which, among other things, is comprised of a staggering 550,000 miles of underground cabling. To show you exactly what that means, communications research firm TeleGeography and designer Markus Kristeya created the above beautifully old-timey map of each and every stretch of wire"

@Oldhat. I vaguely remember a very indepth article, I think in Wired, that explored these across the different continents.
  3.  (10955.7)
@Steve Toase: you may be thinking of the article by Neal Stephenson, published around three years before Cryptonomicon, which covered some of the same territory.

    Cheers Yaboo. That's the one.

You should check out the other internet maps: telegeography.com

My friend met the guy who gathers the data at a conference the other day. I wish I could afford the submarine cables map because I have so much love for them for absolutely no reason.

On the 'Internet as a series of tubes' thing, I can totally recommend you read this book on the subject...

I've given you dandy bestiality in the Purefinder thread but figured I should give you more to grow on:

The Alternate History of Doctor Who wherein all The Doctors have been played by women

I use Flipboard to follow the tag Munich on 500px, and this popped up. It's a great shot.

Since I get namechecked in the female Doctor list, I really wish I'd been more involved in the selections...

And I miss Paul's R/Rs too. and R/Rs all round.
