    After basically 10 silent years, out of the blue tonight and on his 66th birthday, David Bowie released a new single and announced an album to release in March. This blows my mind!

    In 2003 I dropped all my college classes to follow Bowie's tour for five shows. It was the best decision of my life!

    Just wanted to pass this exciting news on. I expect Warren is excited.

    ... I was genuinely disappointed by the single. The first half was too soft-rock-adult-contemporary, and while the second half picked up nicely, that doesn't make the completely blah beginning okay.

    It's not great, but he has released so many truly great albums that I don't feel he owes me anything. I'm glad to see Bowie is still making music though.

    That shot of him at the end of the video made me sad for some reason...I have no idea why.

    Bad case of Peter Gabriel Syndrome going on in that single. He doesn't seem to have completely succumbed to "Tired old man makes music", but it's worth being concerned about.

    Tangent- God, I miss Secret World Live and earlier Peter Gabriel.

    The video's kind of humorous; kind of "tired old man makes music" so he doesn't look like a "tired old man making music". I'm chuckling at the geriatric dolls, but avoiding looking at any mirrors for the next 20 minutes.

    I like the melancholy feel it has to it, even if it does feel a little thin overall. And even if he's not on his 'A' game, having Bowie and his music back out in the world is, for me, A Good Thing. If he does any live dates in Britain, I will do my damnest to get tickets.

    Apparently his stamina won't allow him to tour this time, but after four decades of making art, he deserves to coast along if he feels like it.

    For my part I'd like to talk about the real, actual cover for this new album:

    I really like Where Are We Now?, it reminds me of Heathen, his 2002 album that I absolutely loved! It feels like it's real, serious art, with substance (and maybe that's why I was a bit disappointed with Reality, especially that it was supposed to be his last album before retiring).

    The album cover is a different story, my first impression is that I hate it. I read this:

    I understand what they tried to achieve, but it doesn't look good.

    The album will be great. I have no doubt. The song immediately reminded me of The Loneliest Guy off Reality, which is an awesome song. Ora little like some of the better stuff on Hours. His Producer Tony Visconti said his mind was blown that Bowie decided on this as the opening single, because it's such a Rock n Roll album. I dig the song.

    Have no fear. Bowie will deliver.

    Wow - I saw that cover on twitter and thought it was a joke based on the primary image on the website.

    Having said that... I kind of like it; it has a quiet Fuck You quality
