- Was handed a pork tenderloin and, with the use of a spiked hammer and several other things turned it in to several pieces of delicious pork schnitzel. Felt good to make something.

- Slow going, but weight IS being lost. The tummy is going down and little features are starting to get more defined again. Miss pizza like the dickens, though. On this note too, walking is becoming my saviour. Nothing quite like the feeling of my booted feet on pavement.

- I'M BACK AT THE OFFICE! Thank christ for that. Having something to do every day prevents me from thinking about shitty stuff.

- I'm in talks with an award winning homebrewer and he's helping me learn more about making beer AND is helping me formulate a recipe. Am alllllmost done with a recipe for an American Brown Ale with hints of chamomile and lemongrass which I'm deciding to call "Manor House Intrigue".

- On the beer note as well, cutting down on recreational drinking has been a good move for overall mood. And drinking cask beer has been better for my system (no carbonation in cask beer = no bloating).

After going to a studio shoot for work on Monday (to observe), and being asked to do headshot portraits for work a couple of weeks ago and realising that my gear wasn't up to that sort of gig (no proper flash, broken camera)... I realised I miss taking pictures too much, I'd dreamed of making a go of photography as a way of generating a second income, or at least paying for itself, or as an emergency second career should it be required. I'd realised that the guys we employ for £500 a pop are great, but in many cases they're not really doing anything I'm not capable of doing too (not that I want to take work from them though).

So I've just ordered a new D600 full frame camera and speedlight. Means I can properly use all my good prime lenses instead of DX ones, I can offer to do shoots for work now when there's no budget to employ someone instead of refusing, so I get to build my portfolio, and I talked my partner into agreeing to help me sell stuff, whether prints or through stock agencies.

I sure as hell can't afford it, so I have to make it work. Lovely day. I had worried that it might not be, knowing I had to start it off with going to the DMV to renew my drivers licence, but that went quick. My mom took me out to lunch, and I did some stuff in the printmaking studio. I didn't have a party, really. But a good friend of mine who is a fabulous cook made me lamb daube and lavender napoleons. We also had a tiny chocolate cheesecake to put candles in and make a wish with. Fitting all of my candles so comfortably on a 6 inch circle made me feel like I have a lot of life left ahead of me, which of course I do. Got an e-mail from POS suggesting a game to me. Not only did it mean a lot to know that I'm in their thoughts, but also shows how well they know me, as the game is a fast favourite.

After two days of no food (empty fridge and cupboards, no money for even bread) my dad came home from the weekend and we ordered pizza. Stomach's feeling rotten and I'll feel guilty soon, but so far SUCH GOOD PIZZA.

Metro construction sites with glaring bright lights showing the impossible amount of detail in blasted rock and excavation equipment in eye-bending high definition. Dead underpasses with unblinking lights and concrete walls, trudging through peoples backyards that were sudden pools of warmth, soft light and calm. Standing on bridges looking out to the sea, where the lights of deserted docks and boat repair yards illuminated the ice and a steady flow and curling of ice and snow pouring inland, jumping the embankment of the roads in a wave and hitting you on the face so hard it really hurt.

Mind replaying a hundred such walks from when I was a teenager, going to some party with a bottle of wine in my backbag or just walking around experiencing the world - connecting all of those to the adult life, making my mood vacillate between the teenager's enthusiastic uncertainty and the adult's "I fucking hacked it and life is all kinds of awesome!" mode.

Got home carrying a few kilos of snow in my pants legs, brain humming in a slightly different tone than previously. Reading her stuff has reminded to tell the fellow in my life how physically beautiful he is, and has allowed me to make some degree of peace with the still alien concept that somehow, in this youth-obsessed culture we live in, I'm growing more attractive with age. I'm sure it has more to do with confidence and comfort than pure aesthetics, but really, I'd rather be found attractive for the things that I've had some hand in, than for pure genetics of arbitrary physical attraction, so....
