So, all you fuckers who didn't go and give your monies to see Dredd in the cinema - 'theatres' for colonials - are now discovering it and it's selling fuckloads on DVD and blu-ray and held the most stolen film spot for a bit on piratebay and word of mouth is certainly doing things for it.

*Now* it's reaching an audience. Which isn't really a surprise, but does anyone have any decent information on how this will affect chances of more Dredd? Or informed speculation?

Apparently all of the costumes and props are now being auctioned off, which doesn't bode well, but is that really it, considering the traction it's now getting?

Hopefully not, and hopefully the reports of bad transfers to home media, and the European version being cropped and the colours more saturated compared to the American version are bullshit.

Not able to say myself as i've not been able to get it, HMV sold out of it on release day on Blu-ray, and then closed down, and none of the Irish stores have gotten it in at all, so online seems my only option.

Personally I'd love to see it picked up as a TV show.

I'd love to see a sequel or a TV adaptation, but I've heard nothing to suggest one will actually surface. Den of Geek have been following the success (or lack of) of the film pretty closely, and there's been nothing out of them since this article.

But hey, even if nothing further happens, we still got to see a really solid, brutal and faithful Dredd movie. FWIW, it's not quite the Dredd movie I'd have liked to have seen in a perfect world, but I think it did the source material justice. That's more than can be said about a lot of comic adaptations.

Well, I did my part; I took four friends and told many more to go see it. Hopefully we'll see a sequel.

My suspicion is that it's done well enough on home video (650,000 copies in its first week, according to Lionsgate's own press release) that Liosngate would be willing to co-finance a second, but they're not going to pay for the whole thing again.

On matters Dredd - I've yet to read this weeks prog, but the Dredd story, titled Closet, deals with the issue of a teenager coming out. A lawman is seen in a gay club, with the caption; "I'd always known I was gay. I was just too scared to admit it."

Supposedly, the image has prompted an extreme reaction with fans, with some even threatening to burn copies. The figure isn't even Dredd, but just a man dressed like him at a Judge-Dredd-themed gay club.

I know that this hasn't got much to do with the with the theme of this thread, but I just found this a bit funny.

People who buy comics and burn them - that's just...*sigh*

On the film: I absolutely loved it, flaws and all. I think since getting the Blu-Ray I've watched it maybe...ten times? Really enjoy it. Disagree with the thought that the stigma from the Stallone Dredd ruined it in theaters. Many of my friends didn't see it because they said it looked too much like Raid: The Redemption. But now they're enjoying it.

On the comic: Here be the page that caused such an outrage:

The outrage seems to be a few things.

    1. Dredd is kissing a guy.
    2. Dredd is kissing someone. Judges are celibate and Dredd is a real stickler for that sort of thing.
    3. 2000AD is hyping up the controversy and capitalizing on it WHICH IS WRONG BECAUSE AS A FAN I FEEL ENTITLED TO TELL PEOPLE HOW TO RUN THEIR BUSINESS ETC.

Me, I don't really care. I'm making my way through the Complete Case Files best I can and enjoying the hell out of it. While I'm pretty sure this is going to be a fantasy or hell, knowing the big meg, even just a guy in a Dredd costume at a club for that sort of thing, I'd be interested to read it.

And it's not like they've not had plenty of same sex couples in 2000AD over the years anyway...
