    I'm disappointed, too, as I am whenever even a semi-likable character meets with a gruesome end in these Crossed series. However, the stories are still quite attention-riveting and entertaining.

    I don't think the men on Cava will start raping (gang or otherwise) the women because: 1) Tabitha, Jackie, and especially Elisa can fend off any unwelcome advances; 2) Mrs. Masoud and Jackie have husbands with whom it's probably a good idea not to mess; 3) Roshan and Chanice have protective fathers; 4) Maria is too old, but can likely take care of herself; 5) Edith and Christie are frumpy and smell like mothballs and cat piss; and 6) Jamie's a sodomite, Rab possibly so, and Jackson's a zoophile.

    Just looked at the Interlude and it says he is from Edinburgh not a Biblical city mentioned in Genesis.

    The thing is, you're all going off of what Shaky thinks has happened given the available evidence. It could have been a matter that she went in expecting to sweet talk them into remaining there. The soldiers could have been questioning her on where the other survivors were at, where they were based and if there were more women available. From a military standpoint, having another operational base that didn't require you to empty a few magazines every time you went on a supply run would be good thing. Having a few women makes it even more a tempting target for a change in management.
    I don't see Seline getting out of a room full of soldiers. It seems more likely that the soldier came down to take care of business on his own and then the events carried on as Shaky thinks. Or they did have a go at her as a means of breaking her to get the information and the soldier came back for another round by himself.
    The only thing that we the readers and Shaky have to go on is dead, uncrossed, aroused soldier (singular) a length of rope (which may or may not have been used for what we think it was used for), and what is apparently Seline's finger in a grenade ring.
    I for one am with the other people there for getting what they need loaded and out of there before there's more crossed to deal with. Or other survivors looking to finally get something off the bastards who wouldn't let them in.
    As for the number of people to bring back, I'm sure rationing of supplies and space is important. But I can't help thinking of the scene in the Seven Samurai where the guys sent to recruit the samurai apologize to the elder who sent them, since they were supposed to get three or four. And the elder said, "seven should be enough, had I told you get seven you would have come back with twenty."
    And who knows, with what Shaky's been pulling, he might not be welcome back. Which would open space for the last person.

    I think two of the skinnier new crew wouldn't take up that much more space nor would they weigh that much more than one Seline. Bring them all aboard!

    Stakes is high. Spurrier, you're doing a bang-up job. Enjoying the hell out of this series, especially the bits that are hard to stomach. I feel like Spurrier has a better grip of the morally relative ethics of a Crossed world than anyone except maybe Ennis. I found the rape scene utterly believable, in all its banality.
