Got to cook for some friends for the first time in a good while. I don't get the opportunity nearly often enough.

Chicken fajitas (sour cream, cheddar, grilled bell peppers, red onions), bbq baby back ribs, homemade salsa. The salsa was just the essentials (tomato, red onion, lime, chili, cilantro, a little salt & sugar) but the proportions were JUST. RIGHT. So damn good. The night's winner, I think.

So, Chaplains. GIVE US YOUR AWESOME.

Ok, the Lithuanian Vysniu tastes more like the Polish Wisniowka i remember from my younger days than the Polish stuff my mate from work brought over after Christmas did. I am sitting down now because i don't think i can stand up. Nostalgia - its a dangerous thing.

Last night I went to The Only Cafe where the cellarman showed me the ropes. I learned how the draught system works, how to change a keg, how to clean lines, I tapped a cask and learned how to pour the perfect pint. I even "worked" for about five minutes as orders came in. Had SO much fun and the knowledge will be useful.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but it'll do...finally got around to reading Crooked Little Vein. Fucking awesome, can't put it down, etc. I have a better title for it though...Uncle Warren's Big Book of Fucking Horrible Things...

Just four more days and I'm done with the show. I don't know if the person I'm turning it over to is reliable, if he has the sense of art that the show carries, if he gets it. But in four days it won't be my problem. I keep going back to feeling bad about walking away, but then being brought back to the aggravation and stress of how disorganized it all is and I remember I need to leave.

So I'm almost free. And I relish the coming lightness.

Out with my mom this evening, the only one who only skips junk food if it costs money but otherwise encourages us indulging in it at every turn. And so even though I totally shouldn't have I had a giant sloppy hot dog and then a churro. The only guilt I free comes from me. Mom was a-ok with it.

I am slowly but surely learning how to roller skate. Not to the level that my badass wife Jane is (Rocket Hips, #321, on the Killamazoo Derby Darlins), but to the point where we can skate together and hold hands and do the couple's skates. I am less "Frankenstien's Monster" in my stance now, and have not run over any kids at the local roller rink. Biggest challenge; overcoming 40+ years of trying NOT to fall down. Stopping properly is my next task. Then, forcing the DJ at the rink to upgrade his music collection...

@Paul-I still can't skate . . . and stopping is my issue as well, I usually end up having the use the wall to stop me.

I went to my first art show last night. It was an amazing, yet surreal experience to see two of my photos up on the wall with so many other amazing pieces of art. I didn't win any of the prizes, but it was okay. The fact that I got in the show made me really happy. Although, I did drink way too much because my friend Ken was buying me drinks to celebrate and I was really nervous. Got sick for the first time in a very loooooooong time, but it's okay. Feeling a bit better now and I think I may go try to eat something . . .

My art is the photo of the Coke bottles (which was hard to photograph because it had a spot on it) and the origami cranes

My final show is done and I'm celebrating with almost a full glass of Pyrat rum and small mountain of greasy Chinese food. Of course, I'm going back to make sure my replacement does it right on his own (at the cost of taking on more paying work because I still can't be in two theatres at once }:P). But after that I'm free and clear and have yet more fun lined up.

One of the sweetest of sweethearts on the show found me after to give me a hug and said she knew she was being a little weird but wanted to be friends with me, so could we get coffee some time? Hah! awww.... Don't tell her, but I've been letting myself build a little crush on her, knowing I'd leave her alone. She does live with her boyfriend, naturally. But she's cute and fun and maybe a new friend. Neat. }:>

Standing in the isle at Wal-Mart this morning c. 6:40 holding pencils and selecting markers . . . The stock man says to me, "Are you off to inspire young minds?" I say that I'm going to try. He replies, "It may not always seem like it, but you do." . . .wow, unexpected inspiration on a rainy Monday morning.

That's an awesome little personal vignette, Cara. Hang on to it.

@Morac-I'm trying to hang on to that one. It was very special.

Got a package full of goodies from a brewery. In it was a personalized press release that ended with this:

"On behalf of the brewery, I want to thank you for your continued support and for being an ambassador of the craft beer industry. Your passion for reporting craft beer validates our passion for brewing it!"

I felt pretty damned good reading that.

    That's amazing, oldhat!! :D

I just saw the sci fi film Neon Ghosts, in which I play the lead, and I didn't hate everything I did in it! :)

Finally got a response to a job application (Temp QA Tester position, not ideal but better than continued unemployment). Hopefully will get an interview.

Got proper working broadband again. Got unexpectedly invited to someone's birthday party and realised we share the same date and age, really rather strange. Got a ticket to see a certain Orbital Death Ray enthusiast speak at Foyles at the end of the month. All good! Happy, me!

Proofs for prints finally arrived in the mail. Orchid that has been blooming since last year is still blooming, with new buds coming. Another of my orchids has a stalk with some buds, so apparently I am doing something right, though I have no idea what. I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
