Staple gun to the face for their seemingly female "X-Crossed messiah" - good a way as any I suppose if you want to salute in a new and exciting way. I wondered when someone would ask Shaky for his story and what the reply would be...I thought it was perfect from captain lucky only to be shot down in a single "none of your fucking business" breath. Admittedly I was more curious about the asshole from the other group who took off on his own and whether we'd see him poking his head around a tree or if he was already inside the fences. (If he found it, though I imagine he will have.) Maybe he's already snuffed pudgy Jon - he and Rab would be a wicked force against Shaky coming back inside, for sure.

Thanks Si - great work. (And I loved the annual!! Jackson's tell-all was immensely wonderful!!!)

Re the staple gun, I thought they were stapling another face on to her as I couldn't see any cross or x, unless I'm missing something. And she has soldiers with guns, looks like Cava's idyll will be violently terminated soon.

Just gone back and reread, apologies, there is an X on show, they were just stapling the cloth to her face. Blame my eyes. I wonder if Shaky will willingly become Crossed as he says doesn't want the adrenaline to stop, and in the original series when one of the survivors is infected he says something like 'feels like venom but you want more'.

Well..., seems like Viceroy made it.
For now.
I was sure he would be killed off during the sortie..., thought when he volunteered to go along with Shakey to investigate the little mystery there that his end was fast approaching.
His luck hasn't run out just yet I guess..., but luck - oh, such a faithless thing... :)

Why does everyone want to see Viceroy come to a grisly end? He might have the charisma of a housebrick, but I fail to see why he attracts the derision he does. And he's "lucky", so he should really take the role of Mascot to those who've been around him.

I like Viceroy, the Gamekeeper not so much...., but I figure they both will meet grisly ends sooner or later - this being the crossed, a grisly end is pretty much all there is..., I just thought Viceroy would have played his part by now..., glad he's still around :D

I was surprised that only Seline didn't make it back. I also have been enjoying the slow build-up of the nun as the main villain. While thinking about how the last pieces of Shaky's story would come out I was thinking that someone else would press him on it. The scenario I had imagined was that the nun would come to Cava and speak to them and ask for Shaky or something like that. At which point everyone turns to him and demands answers(this could certainly still happen though). As far as the nun herself and the X, I had considered the same thing as johnjones above(that she is not actually crossed, just insane), but it doesn't fit. She lives with the crossed now and would definitely have come into contact with the infection. I am now thinking that it is more likely a mutation of the crossed disease. Either the group ran afoul of a crossed with an X and the nun was left behind or something like: they are running from the crossed, and are passing by / over a pit filled with crossed corpses and in all that infectious shit a new strain has emerged. The nun somehow falls in(so yes, she is the Joker apparently lol).

In comparison to WIsh you were here volume 1 when we see the Nun on the boat, her appearance in this chapter doesn't actually appear to show the cross... all I see is blood running down from the hairline.

I think you can just see the bottom part of one half of the X. Also, this wouldn't be the first time one of the Crossed rashes got left off by the colorist.

The "X" is indeed there. We had some last-minute art correx for this page which meant we had to prevail upon the colourist do provide the cross rather than the inker, but - yeah. For the avoidance of conspiracy theories, the X is indeed there.

Aye, that's where my comparison fell down, Si. Volume 1 had the X in inks. It wasn't until I actually leaned forward (reading your comics in a slouched position to avoid falling off my chair) that I noticed the change in colouration.

Just when you start to think, wow, Shaky is kinda jerk the Crossed show up to remind us that hey at least our survivors are HUMAN.

My own (worst) theory is the virus has mutated into something that makes the Crossed even more impervious to infection/disease, making them the next evolutionary step after humanity, and the Nun is the first (second after the GK?), and THAT'S why she's a Messiah to the Crossed.

Even with the mission being a relative success. If the "Cava-ites" are still there, Shaky's going to be due some reckoning. As much as Rab and Don don't get along, they do talk and Shaky's done a lot to put himself on both of their shitlists. Especially if Jasper actually made it back to the island, can't have someone leaving notes all over the countryside telling people where they're at. Wouldn't be surprised to see Shaky voted off the island.
