Shannon Larratt died last night. I know there's an overlap of BME folks on here too. BME was the very first community I really felt a part of. It has significantly influenced so much in the acceptance and celebration of weirdos, the spread of altporn, opening up knowledge for body hacking and making body modifications safer - I think it touches a lot we do here.

A post-humous blog entry was posted today on his site: http://www.zentastic.com/blog/2013/03/16/finita-la-commedia-3/

Ah, shit. Genuinely shocked. It sounds like he touched a lot more people than he ever knew. RIP.

Thanks for posting this, Glu. Shannon was such a great guy, always passionate and excited no matter the shit that got thrown at him. There's a trust fund for his daughter (also one of the coolest kids I've met) I'll definitely be contributing to.

Very sad. That posthumous blog entry is beautiful and poignant.

I came here just now because of all this :-( I met him, maybe twice?, a very long time ago... Sent me a lovely email a couple of years back when I was compiling The List... I had no idea about all of that, re reading the email today in the light of the exit post just,.... there's a whole new 10 levels to that email that I missed at the time.

I never quite got around to properly joining BME, I guess its time to get on with it!

Thank you for posting this. Shannon and I were fairly good friends back in the late 90s/early 2000s, and I must have attended a dozen BBQs in his backyard over the years. We lost touch a while ago, but still ran into each other on occasion... and I barely recognised him the last time I saw him.

    RIP indeed.
Allana: Thanks for mentioning the trust fund. <3

Shannon changed my life in huge ways while I was still young, and I looked up to him in so many ways as he was always doing stuff, whether it was body mod interviews or making little figurines. Crap, he was just an amazing human - one of those perfect balances of intelligent, creative, and unique. I never got to meet him, but he's definitely one of my favorite people ever.
