@Dorkmuffin : there's actually such a thing as an AT-AT walker, custom made by cartoonist Ben Dewey for a 4 year old boy recovering from surgery.

So we have what passes for a potentially damaging storm passing through here overnight tonight. We don't really do extreme weather here, so it'll no doubt cause all sorts of mess.

Warren has nicknamed it 'Death Storm Doris', which is actually a little better than the 'official' name which is 'Storm St. Jude'. Yup, the patron saint of depression and lost causes.

Gotta love the British sense of humour...

Death storm Doris... yeah. like that...

They've preemptively cancelled all the frigging trains. regardless of whether it actually causes problems or not.

@JP, speaking as someone who lived in New York and watched the post-Sandy shitstorm—it's better that they've canceled the trains preemptively. It means if shit DOES happen, it'll be way easier to clean up.

(For reference, they're still fixing some shit in the subway tunnels that got flooded in NY over a year later)

This is South West Trains we're talking about. One tree falling on the line will take them 6 hours to find and remove… (the funniest part is the strongest wind doesn't even reach this part of the UK until around 10am tomorrow)

Yeah, I suppose... they seem now to be taking a much more risk averse approach and saying "sod this" rather than trying to battle through. The 1987 and 1990 storms were fairly grim, remember sheltering in the school sports hall and watching the doors rip off and cartwheel away over the playing fields. Plus no power for nearly a week.

Satan's Worst Trains, if they ran pissups in breweries AA would be lauding them for services to abstinence... at least they have the self awareness to know when not to bother

The punchline made me guffaw, I'll admit.
