Soul Coughing Songs: ReimaginedI'm reworking some Soul Coughing tunes and would like you to join me in the recording of them.I’m reworking 13 songs I wrote for Soul Coughing. It’s scary and surreal for me, and probably quite unexpected for you. This page here is a way to bring you into what’s happening, and there are unusual twists that I hope will intrigue you. After my memoir, which was so full of darkness, I picked up a guitar and, by myself, played through the songs I wrote in the 90s — between the ages of 20 and 29 — to figure out who I was, where I was, and what I was trying to say. I want to separate the songs from that darkness; maybe I can make them more like what I initially intended them to be.There will be large, booming beats, deep upright bass, probably more stuff along the lines of the music I’ve been making for the last dozen years, weirdness, and…and, actually, I don’t know what. You can pledge, and you’ll be invited into the whole process — I haven’t recorded a single note yet — you’ll get access to a part of this site with videos of the album being made, updates, photos, oddness, and the whole of this weird and scary thing I’m embarking on.I’m also doing videos of solo/acoustic performances of these Soul Coughing songs — 20 of them. Ten of them will be put out in the world, available to anybody — and ten will be viewable by pledgers only. And you can choose some, or any, of the strange and wondrous options listed to the right. The title of the album is the songs that’ll be on it: Super Bon Bon Circles How Many Cans? True Dreams of Wichita St. Louise Is Listening. This is a freaky step for me — both engaging these songs again, and opening up the process like this. Hope you choose to come along.Your scared/excited friend,Mike
