@Roo, that was a bomb threat called into the Boston fed. courthouse. Apparently they normally wouldn't have evacuated everyone quite that fast, but given the events of the last few days, they thought a little extra caution was prudent.

Within hours after the FBI posted video of two bombing suspects, someone on Reddit spotted one of the suckers running from the explosion:

Someone is going through the MIT campus firing a gun. One campus police officer has been killed.

No idea if this is related to the bombings, and I suspect they're probably isolated incidents, but posting it here just in case it turns out not to be.

Someone else on Reddit spotted the other guy in the far background of a photo they took with friends, the forwarded the pic to the FBI. I Think this one has been sent to the FBI too. I hope they catch the bastards.

Not sure the MIT thing is related. Either way I hope the catch that guy too!

Just spent an hour or so listening to live reports and police radio feeds from Watertown. An unholy confused mess involving carjacking, gunfights, explosives tossed from cars, and at least policeman shot.

It seems as though one officer has died and there is a second down, not counting the campus officer. But the whole thing is a jumbled mess and any connection to the bombing is unclear confirmed that they are after the two suspects, one of whom seems to be in custody dead.

Someone on reddit is updating very dutifully here.

Sounds like they confirmed that one of them is White Hat Guy.

The BBC are trying their best to cross reference all the sources. (Every single thing they're saying is qualified by 'this is what we're hearing, but the FBI has not confirmed'.)

White hat guy is apparently still on the loose, the other suspect has been apprehended but has died in hospital (ran over by a car while trying to escape some are saying).

There's a google map tracking the events people are picking up on police scanners.

    [edit]

Police statement just been made, the guys they were chasing this evening are indeed the bombing suspects.

One suspect was shot and apparently killed in the SUV they were escaping in during the chase while exchanging fire with the police. Assuming he was driving, as the other is potentially holed up somewhere after escaping on foot. They've released new pictures of the remaining suspect from a 7/11 earlier in the evening, definitely seems to be the white capped guy. They believe he's armed with an assault rifle and grenades.

People in the area are told to stay locked in their homes and only open the doors to police officers.

BBC interviewing a guy on webcam in his house, he's showing where a bullet from the pursuit came in through his wall, struck his chair and narrowly missed him.

Perhaps getting ahead of the game the leader of Chechnya had this to say:

Any attempt to make a link between Chechnya and the Tsarnaevs, if they are guilty, is in vain. They grew up in the US, their views and beliefs were formed there. The roots of evil must be searched for in America. The whole world must battle with terrorism.

We know this better than anyone. We wish recover to all the victims and share Americans' feeling of sorrow

I find it slightly disturbing that the press are seemingly chasing statements from the families back in Russia, emotions are clearly running high and they're saying things they'll probably regret that basically help no one.

@ Fauxhammer I'll cross fingers for your Watertown family and friends, and hope they'll be safe.

Thanks--I'm sure they will be, but there's a very big x-factor in the mix. I do not like x-factors.

I made an appointment to give blood for next week; it won't help the people back home, but it'll help somebody.

I agree, I have no emotional interest outside of human empathy and I've found today difficult to process.

Having to process your family's involvement in all of the horrible things that have happened in front of a reporter when you've just learned your son died and your other son is still hiding out...

It's been a really weird week all around, because of time differences etc... every morning I've woken up this week, turned on the tv, and something else awful has happened while I've been sleeping. I'm finding it really hard to process myself as well.

My thoughts are absolutely with those who have loved ones in harms way.

Congressperson manages to shoot himself in foot with his own AR-15. Mentions worth a read. Also seems like his website might have been hacked (or maybe it's meant to be written in kanji.)

Well, looks like Chechnya needs some freedom.
