    Katelan Foisy did a painting of comic character Sherbet Lock and used me as a reference!

    After a few days of lazing about and finding excuses I got myself to the gym. My God it hurt.

    Couldn't sort out accessing the Japanese language input and feared installing a whole thing from some site that looked a little sketchy. I just had the computer repaired and the guys who sold it to me, initialized Windows etc, had fired up Japanese back then. They didn't this time and I was near panic. Then a friend popped up on Twitter, got me over to Google hangout and he remoted in to take a look. Heh. Leave it to technology to save technology. My friend sorted the problem out quickly and easily (the input is there, just put away where idiots like me can't play with it.) Also Google+ Hangout is like all modern technology: nifty and helpful and also well and truly creepy. Good job, G!

    I made music. For the first time in my life, I made something that holds together as a song. I'm still blinking at myself in the mirror, totally amazed by this.

    You have to understand. I have no musical talent. I can barely sing, I can play no instruments, and I have trouble keeping a beat. And yet... I made a song.

    ALL RIGHT. After the shitshow that April was, I'm back on track. Writing, reading, working hard. Feels very nice.

    @oldhat--she is amazing.

    I has a balcony and I bought a flower box and planted basil in it.
    You don't understand the joy this brings me.

    @allana:

    Heh, we'll be planting some basil in my balcony today :D Maybe some other edibles too, there's a bunch of cat-survived chillies that'll be moving into my place.

    Got a full two-day weekend, and spent it at Ottawa Comic Con! I met Rooth in person, and got to chat with him for a while, which was great. He says he is coming back, so everyone give him Hell if he doesn't! I also got to give so many people the finger... My older brother, my friend, and I were dressed as Spider and his filthy assistants! Good times were had by all.

    I found out something disturbing about my new (moved in January) house that has taken a load off of my mind.

    Last month my neighbor left an email suggesting I not smoke weed in my garage and back yard, because it was stinking up his place.

    Now . . . I don't partake. Don't mind if other people do. Wish it were legal for many reasons. But I don't smoke the stuff. I felt kind of hurt and paranoid about the accusation, though. I invited the guy over to check things out, but the smell went away and he got busy. (Me, I never smelled anything. I wouldn't, I'm plugged up with allergies this time of year.)

    Early last week he mentioned that the smell was back. On Saturday I caught he and his wife as they were leaving for errands. I showed him my garage and upstairs, which he declared funk free, but it wasn't really necessary. He had another theory for the source of the smell based on the house's history. Something no one ever bothered to tell me.

    Now, I know the place had been foreclosed on, fixed up, and "flipped." But it turns out there was a squatter in the place, one who had walled off the back of the garage, ran in dozens of wires, and set up a hydroponic pot farm. My neighbor showed me where the guy had knocked a hole in the garage ceiling to set up a pully system to deliver stuff up to the living room. And where he had made holes in the walls to store stuff.

    So . . . what my neighbor was smelling was most likely outgassing from resin-saturated wallboard and insulation, and maybe secret stashes of weed.

    I'm glad I'm off the hook.

    That's interesting. I'm kind of in the same situation as your neighbour. I'm pretty sure one of my neighbours smokes weed at his back door and if the wind's blowing the right way the smoke comes into my flat through the ventilation and badly sealed windows. I've only been here since December, though, and I had wondered if it could've been something left behind by the previous owners (or their offspring) but wasn't sure if that was really even plausible. I might do a proper search of the flat sometime.

    Went to my favourite used book store and found a HUGE book on Indian cuisine that I've wanted to own for only $16!

    I also figured out how to work my PS3 controller on my mac for game goodness.

    Also also, the backyard is not a rainforest anymore. We still need to take care of weeds that will be growing out, but I feel like we can manage now.

    Also also also I got to hang out with a friend I've not hung out with since October. Was very nice.

    And I'm sort of in a chickpea curry and naan phase right now. NOM.

    @Oldhat Wow. Sounds like your May has been filled with days full of win.

    Chickpea curry and naan utterly rocks, BTW.

    @Miranda's, well job searching is still sucking. And more medical fun is happening.

    But damn it, I'm going to make Garlic Naan from scratch today.

    Oh! I also got sent a fun press kit from beer people!

    PIC-A-NIC BASKET!

    Woke up this morning feeling all fuzzy from a great night of culture, pals and public speaking, wrote a blog post about a film that was rattling in my head while drinking a cup of great coffee, and then headed out into the world where the sun was so hot I had to jettison my jacket and a hoodie on a bus stop, and there was the scent of cut grass. Summer!

    Also, been on the offensive with my knee - went to see a doctor, get it X-rayed, then off to orthopaedist and yesterday had a nice nap in MRI. It just might be that 20 years of more or less constant pain may be over before the end of the year <3

    Theres love, friendship, art, accomplishment and adventure in the air. Can't remember a happier time from my adult life and things seem to be getting even better.

    I'm off to the dark heart of the country to meet up with a lot of podcasting people and play lots of boardgames to raise money for charity this weekend.

    Been looking forward to it for a while now, I think I really need a weekend away to get some perspective before I make the next round of serious career decisions.

    I haven't had a real vacation since . . . last summer? House-hunting and moving utterly crushed my winter holiday plans.

    So. Finally, I'm getting out of the house. Putting the dog in the kennel and driving to San Francisco for the Maker Faire.
