Figured I'd start a thread being that Warren is likely cashing his royalty checks and hadn't started one yet. What an excellent read, thoughts comments?
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Happy Hogan is the best disembodied voice in the history of the comics art form.
God, its good to see that not everything coming out of the Ultimate Universe is complete shit these days... Aside from Ultimate Spider-Man (which monthly issues rather than bimonthly issues saved from turning into total garbage, not to mention Immonen's art), and this, there's hardly anything readable...
I am ignoring Loeb's Ultimates 3 and pretending that Ultimate Human is in fact Ultimates 3 under disguise.
I thought it was very strong. I was actually a little surprised that Tony managed to beat the Hulk (granted, his armor exploded right after, but that was still pretty badass). Thought the conflict would be drawn out a little longer.
It's a great comic. I echo the sentiments of these feeling more like Ultimates 3 than Ultimates 3.
Ultimates 3 should have better art than actual Ultimates 3/ this book. I like Warren's writing style, but even reading this one, I can tell it's him writing it. I don't love this book, but maybe I want it to be Ultimates so badly that I can't possibly. I expect the next few issues will be amazing, but 1 and 2 didn't thrill me at all. Way better than Loeb's Hulk series though. Those first few issues seemed so stupid to me I wanted to laugh, but couldn't do it through the vomit in my mouth. "Red kill green? Now Blue kill Red!" What the fuck?
Millar/ Hitch have taken these characters to an amazing place that will be really hard for anyone to hold a candle to. Lines like "not head shaped thing!" just remind me of Nextwave, which is one of my favorite books EVER, but I think of it as kind of a light-hearted fun read, making fun of how ridiculous stuff like the Loeb Hulk is, and I don't feel like I should be reminded of that reading what I feel like should be Ultimates 3, which should be an epic masterwork. But of course, that's my fault, I'm confusing different books with each other. I'm glad everyone else seems to like it.
But I'm still going to keep buying it. Don't worry Warren, you still get more of my money, even (especially?) when I'm not loving it, because I always expect genius from you.
