@Fauxhammer I'm of the opinion that any good food you made yourself is the Best Food.

I changed my mind--had black bean spaghetti with bison meatballs. I felt like Hannibal, save for the Emeril's sauce.

    (HOORAY FLECKY!)

I'd written my dad a long email on Father's Day, getting a lot off my chest (not feeling welcome in his new family, not being believed with all my health stuff, etc), while thanking him for being the wacky weird dad I got (before he remarried and turned all super Catholic and right wing) that made me ME. We've not had any contact really since I was kicked out from the apartment I was living in a few years ago for no real reason, and before that things have been strained and odd since I was in highschool.

Yesterday he actually wrote me back, said he was proud of me (first time as an adult that's ever happened), and asked for my address so he could write me a real letter in response.

    (!!!!!)

Also, people are amazing and have actually been tipping my tumblr's virtual tip jar in some seriously awesome ways, which means my ability to print, mat, and frame my piece for the first art show I've ever been part of is more than covered!

@rachael - cool about your dad - I live in terror of messing up my relationship with my daughters, find it sad when that happens to other people.

I've hopefully sorted my leaking mancave roof today - at least for the time being. I've ripped off the sodden, rotten chipboard in places and put plywood and tin sheeting over it, then plastic sheeting, then several old fence panels, then a brand new tarpaulin over the top of that. So just hoping it can hold the rain off long enough for me to be able to afford to replace the entire building (I have designs on a 16x16ft log cabin. Still waiting for my 100m ethernet cable so there's no connection down there, but when that comes we're back in business...

    Log cabin!!! dooooo iiiiiiiit

I've got three days off 'cause Monday is flag day but I'm in Quebec so no one is going to bother celebrating. However, Monday is also when 70% of Montreal moves to new apartments, so I expect to spend the day scouring the neighbourhood for cast-off furniture.

Today it's office hours in the cafe, working on a couple of future-awesomeness proposals. Hopefully I can dig up some scholarships to apply to, since that seems to be going so well for me. The boy's away so my apartment life is pretty much decadence incarnate. I have four semi-solid litres of ice cream to work through. WIsh me luck.

Yep, definitely, but need to find £8k though! And I'll need another car before that too... probably a couple of years before it's a runner sadly.

omigosh, I'm not sure if it fits here, it's not a HUG exactly, but it's funny, and I want to share it.

Last night, my fellow and I are hanging out, and decide at around 3am to go around the corner to the 24 hour pharmacy. We are gone for about 15 minutes. We return home and I open the door to my apartment to find that my roommate has drunkenly returned home with a random girl he'd picked up at the bar, with whom he's hanging out in the livingroom. No big deal, he does this often. But as we walk through the front door, my fellow freezes. "Why is this happening right now?" he asks, with a strange look on his face, the girl looking at him with an equally shocked expression.

And then I realize. The girl is his 22 year old little sister.

Oh dear. * Pulls a pained expression and breathes-out from a pouting mouth* I'm glad it was funny, though.

When I got back with my partner after a period of separation (this was 13 or so years back), she'd stayed at my flat one night. Then the next day, my sister came round for a coffee. My roommate at the time, not a man known for his subtlety, came in, saw my sister, and said 'fucking hell, not another one'.

My family didn't know we were back together... so that was interesting...

Oh good grief... I've got 12 months to write and work something up to standard...
And to find as much cash as possible and somewhere that will put up with me for a month in Edinburgh.

Why am I doing this? Argh!

Edgar and I went diving for the first time since we got our certification, just us two, so it was cool to do what was also our first unguided dive. There was very low surf & swell with tiny waves, so the beach entrance was super easy and not too exhausting. Did two dives, saw a huge halibut on the first dive and a massive crab on the second dive that was definitely the highlight of the day. Also saw a sea hare, pipefish, as well as various other fish. Overall a very fun and successful first dive (post-certification).
