    I feel like there's a lot of creepy atmosphere in Tom Waits' oeuvre. Maybe the album "Real Gone" in particular - ideal if the horror yr writing is set in the first half of the 20th century.

    Also, if you want to get into things with disturbing origins, both David Koresh (leader of the Branch Davidians of Waco, Texas) and Shoko Asahara (founder of Aum Shinrikyo, responsible for the 1995 Tokyo sarin gas attack) released music. MP3s exist, if you really want to go looking for it.
