The Holiday Express- toy train Christmas-themed game from the people who do the Train Simulator series. It's more than a little adorable. :)

Picked up Dust: An Elysian Tale during the steam sale for $3 and change. Looked like something fun to bang through on the laptop when I had a few moments to kill here or there. I like the aesthetic so far and the button mashing is made enjoyable by combos and hit chaining.

I also picked up a cheap year of playstation plus during the annual US descent into Black Friday madness, so I'll start working through a couple of the PS3 games that come free on there. I've been wanting to give Dragon's Dogma a swing, and being able to do so basically free is a nice turn.

Near as I can tell, the entirety of things worth seeing in the VGX awards is this. For my money that makes the show a win.

It's like Noctis with guns! As long as I can play it peacefully, I am SO there!

Good god, I must own this game.

@oldhat: Hmmm. Apparently that's out now. Haven't really heard much about it, though. Seems like both IGN and Destructoid love the hell out of it, though. And it's a Vita game too... Hmmmmmm.

Once I'm done with Phoenix Wright, maybe.

Comes out on Steam this week, too.

I think...I think I'm going to stop off at my gamestore to buy some PSN cash...

I managed to salvage my old 360, so I guess I'm going to be playing some stuff to eradicate my presence in reality. Starting with Batman Arkham City.

Alright, so I'm about...halfway or so through Stick it to the Man's actually quite fun! The writing is definitely keeping me there, as it's pretty hilarious (the intro level has the main character saying "You know, I keep forgetting how many jumps are required to get to and from work..."). I also agree with Rock Paper Shotgun in that I'm actually really surprised Tim Schafer didn't have a hand in this. I just SCREAMS Double Fine.

This Skyrim mod is rather brilliant:

So now "credible sources" are claiming that the Xbox One might take as long as freaking AUTUMN OF NEXT YEAR to get to the territories it hasn't been launched in yet. That includes, oh, all of Scandinavia.

If this is true, man. I feel bad for Xbox fans in these territories. (I'm picking up a PS4 at some point anyway, but I know a few on the other side of the fence.)

Not that the first year of a console is unmissable or anything. But, sheesh.

The sequel to Fireproofs excellent puzzler 'The Room' is out on iPad today (iPhone and Android versions in the New Year)

That's my next few lunch breaks sorted.

It also seems that the damn thing doesn't understand PAL with input devices, only NTSC. The console forces the 50Hz PAL image to 60Hz, which fucks it up - alternatively you can set it to work on 50Hz, which fucks the games up.

Fucking really? From a device that's meant to be the living room media center?

The project I'm working on just very quietly released an alpha, and also very quietly released promo videos. I thought I'd stick this here to make it a bit less quiet.

@Vornaskotti: Slightly less of an issue these days, even if it IS dumb... There are VERY VERY few 50hz sources in modern devices these days, and which ones would you really hook up to the Xbone? You do potentially lose the ability to do picture-in-picture of analogue TV, but that's slowly disappearing too.

I guess if you wanted to hook up your PS2/Gamecube or older consoles up to it... Hmm. That is a valid use.

Actually, if the Xbone can speed up crappy 50hz SNES/Mega Drive ports, that might be the preferred way to play those games :D Most of them were slowed down from 60hz to 50hz anyway, after all.

Why would a dog fight a space video game?

... was the first thing that came to my Norwegian mind, but then I got it a second later. Languages are fun.

Ben- excellent. I backed that Kickstarter and am looking forward to getting my hands on it, although I wasn't so rich as to go over the alpha release. I'm probably going to nag the lead editor at the gaming site I write for to ask after press access. :)

@Vorn: What would your proposed solution to this problem be? It's only an issue if you're watching a PAL input source in PiP while playing a game at the same time. There's no way to handle that without doing pull-up on the PAL source, or pull-down on the 60hz source. The TV can't be at 50 hz on part of the screen and 60hz on another part.

I don't know what the solution to the PAL/NTSC thing is, but then again it's not my job to figure these things out. The difference between the two formats has existed forever and isn't a new problem. MS employs many smart people who should be able to figure out how to make the format change work. This is their job, not mine or Vornaskotti's. When someone makes a multimedia device designed as the full living room solution, they need to either solve these problems or just admit to being happy to be a games machine.

After last gen I'm done with Microsoft. Watching the 360 turn from the game system to have into... whatever the hell it is now, and seeing the Xbox One even moreso, has made it easy to ignore them. It's a shame, really, because I'd have liked to have wanted one.
