So this game I backed on Kickstarter, Homesick, is coming along nicely. Alpha footage-

Yeah, I'm thinking this is going to be one of the more successful games to come off Kickstarter.

    Damn.

That looks fantastic. Going by the kickstarter description it seems unlikely that they've made the engine themselves, I wonder what it is?

Because I am an idiot and was using a cell phone which makes me even more so online, I accidentally bought the new full Humble Bundle instead of the weekly sale that this time is full of adventure games. So, now I have tons of games I don't really need. Here you go, Christmas came early.

@Oldhat I sent you an email with the batman link in it, probably went straight into your spam folder. Didn't think about it as I was en route to Japan. I'm in Japan! Weeeeeeee etc.

I kinda need to play The Forest when it's released. Survival sandbox in a handcrafted world taking its cues from 1970s Italian horror-

Ah, the start of the New Tech Toy Season is a wondrous time! I'm home from the mall and hooking up the PS4 effective immediately. :)

    @James Cunningham

Why buy a PS4 off the hop?

Why not wait for the range of inevitable tech problems to come filtering in?

Why not buy one second hand or post inevitable price drop?

Why not wait for it to have exclusives actually worth the investment?

    Tough crowd.

    Answers-

Because I could and I wanted to and I write gaming news/reviews/articles. Pick one or all three.

Sony has a full year warranty on the system. I've also bought plenty of day-1 hardware in the past with zero problems.

    See first reason.

Because it does have some good exclusives already today and there's plenty more on the way. I've already got Resogun, Contrast, Flower, Sound Shapes, Flow, and a review game, Super Motherload. Plus Escape Plan looks neat, and the $10 gift voucher the system came with means I can grab something at whim. I'll probably save it for CounterSpy, though. The Witness is a long ways off, so no point in saving it for that.

For me, not having an EU-region Blu-Ray player is actually the tipping point to me prooooobably buying the PS4 when it launches here in Norway. My PS3 is set to play US Blu-Rays, and since I've amassed a good selection of US-region movies and stuff (for instance, all my Breaking Bad seasons are R1), I don't wanna change it back.

Plus, I know I'll get one eventually. So might as well do it now and enjoy the New Tech Toy joy. It's served me pretty well with the 3DS and Vita, both of which had pretty lackluster launch window experiences.

In 26 days, something will happen that will probably have something to do w/ an announcement for a new Fallout game.
    I am very excited.

Also, apparently Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and the newest Need for Speed are great games. So yeah, I'll at least have one or two games for my PS4 at launch. Thinking of Resogun, too, but I'm not really into shooters... I picked up Super Stardust for the PS3, and barely played it even though I recognize that it's a good game.

Assassin's Creed 4 is a better game than 3 was in terms of how it plays. It has the same basics as the series always has (including those damn 'eavesdrop' missions, bah), but it links it with an open world 'sail the seas as a pirate, boarding ships and nicking their stuff' section that is just really fun.

Storywise it's a little weaker than 3, the plot isn't hanging off great events in history in the same way (there's more focus on setting up the 'present day' storyline post what happened in 3) so it feels a little more intimate and simple.

If you're thinking of playing online you'll need to subscribe to PS+ now anyway, and if you do that you'll get Resogun for free.
  11.  (11172.96)
Ohhh hey, that's right. The PS4 comes with a month of free PS+, too. Which will let me download Resogun. Which will let me play Resogun for longer than I expect to play it, and still sample it. Okay, so free launch game there :)

I've never played an AC game before, but the pirate combat just sounds like too much fun to pass on, yeah. I figure I'll just read up on the story so far.

@RenThing: I did, and I absolutely love it. Highly recommend for everyone.

That said, I fell pretty hard for XCom: Enemy Unkown when it came out, so this turn of events should surprise no-one.

Okay, I finally had the money to get Kerbal Space Program. Man, I'm in love. I so wish I'd had something like this when I was a kid :)

Still in the "faceplanting on the Mun at 2000 m/s" stage, but looking forward to putting some serious hours on this.

I've got Kerbal Space Program sitting in my Steam library waiting for the time to play. I'm pretty sure it's going to suck a few dozen hours out of me when I get going, so for right now it's sitting there like an unexploded attention-span bomb. Waiting...
