    The old thread died, so:

I went to see Johnny Marr play last night in Gloucester and I had a real good time. Even being surrounded by people drinking didn't really bother me as I necked water.

My criminal record check FINALLY has been cleared, and I'm now the only official Peer Mentor for helping people in the drug treatment services in this goddamn town.

Not bad for an old, malevolent bastard, even if I say so myself.

@JP: He was on form, mate. They played most of the recent album and did a few Smiths songs - How Soon Is now, There Is A light etc. - and even a cover of I Fought The Law. Yeah, it was great.

Last night I had my novel publishing party. Getting that little pile of cellulose and ink out there is, with no exaggeration, the most important thing in my life on a deeply personal level. Something that has been niggling on me throughout my adult life. The party was fucking kick ass. I ordered a small stockpile of books from the publisher, with the idea of selling them to people in the coming months. All but one of those books got sold right in the party. I have a nice little pile of cash that makes paying for the last week of dive school sooooo much easier.

Today I will recover. Tomorrow I'll go out to a mine lake to drive underwater ROV's and learn shit about side-scanning sonars. I'm thinking that in addition to all the wrong turns I've done, I did one right turn in my life somewhere down the line ^___^

    Photo evidence

EDIT: I just went through the proceeds of the evening, as to the book sales. Well, fuck me sideways and call me Susan. It looks like I might not need to eat the crow and ask for my pals for a loan once again, but I can pay the dive school right away. This... this is really not a bad thing.

My fellow brought me to Saint Vitus for the first time on Friday evening, where we saw Evoken, Velnias, Saturnalia Temple, and ..... ESOTERIC!! It's one of those times where since I'd heard their new album I've had it almost constantly on my headphones, where I wake up with their songs in my head. So fabulous an evening I had all around. The venue was small and easy to navigate and see everything; there was a booth for seating towards the back, so I sat my self on the back of it, and was able to sit through the ENTIRE SHOW while also having a pretty decent view, with my camera and purse beside me instead of pulling my spine in terrible directions. For the first time in I can't remember how long, I left a show without being in pain, or having felt like I was going to pass out from heat. SO AWESOME. I also picked out a guy wearing a "Darmok & Jalaad: at Tanagra" shirt while I was sitting alone, poked at him from my sitting spot with my cane, and he ended up being a wonderfully geeky friendly fellow for us to talk to for the evening. I also got a beautiful print and chatted with a very drunk member of Saturnalia Temple!!

It was seriously one of the very best shows I've EVER been to.

(I hardly took photographs at the venue, so I decided to document my joy of the evening when we got home SEEN HERE)

Also, I realized for the first time, looking at the aforementioned photographs, that I really have lost weight. I've FELT my clothes fit a bit differently, but not until these last photographs has it sunken in and that I actually SEE the difference. Hoorah!

Flecky and Vorn: Holy shit guys! You both have FABULOUS achievements! Hanging out at a bar with people drinking about you and coming out unscathed is no easy feat! And EGAD man, your novel EXISTS! Hooray for you both!

I got a new job that actually pays me pretty well! Started it last week, and so far do not want to kill myself while I'm there, which is a good sign since at Neversoft I pretty much immediately wanted to kill myself. I don't get benefits for a few months, though, which is annoying.

Started apartment hunting, but I decided I need to actually collect two or three paychecks before I can move out, so the hunting is mostly theoretical right now. Missed out on an amazing studio in Hollywood that I would've moved in immediately if I could have done. :(

    Cheers Rach :P

Here's some photographic evidence from the publishing party. Below is me on the stage. You won't probably get much of what I say, though :P

I'm back-burnering my novel for a few weeks to get working on the second short story collection with my partner. It's easier to maintain objectivity on a short, and I've lost all of that with the big story. We're actually going to try marketing this time--blog, podcast, postcards, a bundle with That Weird City, shit like that. The Obscura-style oddities shop I've fallen in with agreed to keep some cards once we get them printed, which is nice. I need to start making money, and my mortgage is a good motivator to stay hungry.

@Vorn: Holy shit, congratulations! Any plans for an English translation?

@Rachael: One of my regrets from last month's trip to NYC was missing out on St. Vitus. One of my many...many regrets. PROTIP: Concerta and booze do not mix.

I have plans and wishes, but to realize them would cost thousands of euros, which is how much a professional translation is. Thinking about options for this, crowdfunding would be difficult since even after the translation there's no guarantee of publication... All the ideas are welcome :)

Met my boyfriend's mom and brothers for the first time last week. It went well.
My mom and sister are coming to stay for Thanksgiving this weekend, whom he's met before, but this is a rate of exposure I'm less certain about. And I'm kinda swamped with school stuff, so it could go either way ... But either way there will be much turkey and some adventures. Probably some Apples to Apples.

Finally 'finished' my first iOS game. I say finished, in that it's in submission but could (and almost certainly will) fail and I'll have to fix something.

But it's nice to get to this point, even if it has taken me a fair bit longer than it probably should have done.

I shall be having a little drinkie this evening to celebrate, cause I doubt it'll even get looked at this side of next Wednesday.

@vorn - Congrats on the pub party and finishing the book in general. Hopefully you just make a ton of money in sales and it's no big deal to run a translation.

@Vorn: Yes, congrats are due to you, and, hopefully, one day I'll get to read your book.

Response tweets from my voice over teacher. I dunno, just makes me feel better about the work I did. So little is going right that any little sign of life is very encouraging.

I'm planning my Halloween costume (a suit of armor and bigass sword made of EVA foam) as a distraction from this cocksucker of a year. If I can pull it off, having no cosplay fabrication experience, it's going to be pisser.

ComicCon was pretty fabulous. Thanks to a WFMU DJ on Saturday and a stranger on the street on Sunday, I got passes to go to both days, though I wish I'd managed to get there earlier to experience a bit more. I did get to hang out with old friends Peter and Bobby of Twin Comics, finally met Mike Rooth which was awesome, chatted with Bill Sienkewicz for a while, spoke to David Lloyd for a bit, and talked with Farel Dalrymple as it was closing (he seemed pleased I got my Pop Gun War signed). I went to the Last Rites Gallery for the first time on Saturday night as well, and that was pretty fabulous. I attended a panel with Nicholas Briggs and Colin Baker, and then waited on line to meet them afterwards (I couldn't afford a signature or photograph on anything). I missed out on seeing the X-Files panel, which sucks, but I was running out of time to see the comic creators and I was there for the actual COMICS for the most part. Hooray! Walking around with the fellow made me feel like we were some kind of comic geek couple. He'd see people he knew constantly. He knew David Lloyd from his days Orbital, the fellows running Titan books from Orbital as well, Farel from art school or something, a bunch of other working artists we ran into there, and EVERYONE assumed that he had a table there. I think he's finally starting to realize that he belongs in comics, and that's awesome.

Then today the fellow brought me to see NIN at a stadium. Godspeed You Black Emperor was opening, but we weren't able to get there in time. No matter. It is STILL a GREAT show. The visuals were amazing and wonderful.

(ok, now I sleep for a day)

I have my first ART SHOW! I have sole, terrifying, deargodwhat possession of an entire cafe's walls for one month. I've had to learn how to make good picture frames and mounts in a hurry (thanks youtube). I'm burning through plasters at a fearsome rate, and somehow I haven't bled on anything important yet. Dear god it's less than two weeks away...

I just got back from a convention. Comics? Sci-fi? Nope, none of that: An N.A. convention in a run-down community center. And I sorta enjoyed it, in a perverse kinda way.

I'm so well nowadays, it's sickening!

Somebody wants to use some of my blood photos ( trigger warning it's a blood photo guys) as an album cover or something.
I haven't heard the music yet so I don't know if it's a compliment. But it's still a nice thought.
