It's Thursday! It's mid-afternoon in London! It's another wrongheaded morning in Mericky! It's who-the-fuck-knows-when in Australia! It's time for more Crossed Hideosity!

    Episode 66, live and free-to-air.

NOTE: there's a slight art/colouring error on the penultimate screen-page. The fellow on the right of panel, under the hood, is supposed to have a Crossed marking on his face. We'll get that corrected asap, and certainly for the tpb.

Remember: Not safe for work, not safe for minors, not safe for people of a nervous disposition, not safe for delahaye, not safe for the Radio Times, not safe for the HPDC.

    HOODUNKORLDIT?

    Whoa! Well know we know...

can't help but thinking it's not going to go well for Tabitha back on the ship; babies don't do well there, and I've a feeling the Yanks' raid isn't going to go well, leaving the ships unprotected.

one of those faces was not crossed. hmmmmm. but the debate of trash bag can finally be put to rest. Now we just need to know how he ended up that way. possibly he turns crossed then sees the nun, and remember s her like that one crossed from Tabitha story. was that the end of volume 3? seems semi final like all the other finals in the other arcs. Did you get her? Was repeated by shaky, 3 times. his cool demeanor dropped just trying to figure out if it was desperation or was it longing in his voice.

By the way what the fuck happened to Dead or alive?

SI as a long time lurker you have kept me in the open recently. good on you

oh, now she's pissed off. Now she's really pissed off.

I suppose boxing gloves' identity makes sense in a way, although I thought ashoke had a much smaller build. She did seem to care for him as if he were a child of sorts (kissing him in the forehead when he brings the letter, seline and the dentist, and then removing the boxing gloves so he could have some fun). Anyways, I'm going to guess that the crossed got him, or he got himself infected by accident (perhaps the needles he found at the church?) after Shaky abandoned him. As he had been brain damaged before turning, he remains kind of "special" even after being crossed, so other crossed he comes around follow his lead. Then whatever happens, Teresa and Shaky split, and when she and Ashoke meet again, hell if I can try to guess the next part of their story. I mean, we don't even know if she is crossed or plain crazy.

Also, when Jackson is afraid of the crossed, you know things can't go well

    well THAT was a surprise!
  2.  (11186.7)
My reading is that Shaky is overcome with desperate longing and pants-shitting terror in equal measure.

...kind of like the rest of us...!

Quite a transformation for the boxer. Brain damage made the daft boy weaker as a human, but as a Crossed it almost made him... better? A better monster?

Weird that Shaky seems to almost want Jackson's approval at this point, if even for his "snakiness"--too funny!

At the end of the day Shaky is still a writer, and that's why he makes the diary. A writer without an audience. A writer without recognition, in a world that left writing behind...

Well, now... We finally get a nice comparison shot of post-Crossed-leader-nun and pre-Crossed-leaded-nun. Those scars are definitely infected. Or, if I'm to be excessively storytelling-paranoid, masqueraded to look properly infected.

    Damn. Good. Chapter.

Wow! I never saw that coming. I agree with longtimelurker, the brain damage seems to have improved his lot as crossed. Who'dathunkit?

I CALLED IT! About fucking time I got a prediction right. As u recall when trash bag mummy raped the old lady in front of seline the nurse first took off his boxing glove and we saw his skin was pretty dark. Same as his midsection before he raped and killed the old dentist. I love Si and his interpretation of how the crossed virus takes to a brain that's already broken. It seems to create super crossed. Now as for the hooded bearded crossed man hanging out with the nun, could he be GK

    Holy sh1t balls that's brilliant!!!
Kind of suspected the ID of the garbage guy. Whilst I can see the crossed who should be "painted" I noticed someone who I thought was crossed who doesn't actually seem to be crossed!?
    So the intrigue continues!!!?
I look forward to this every week more than anything!! Ace work Si!!!

"Reasons why Jackson didn't take a second shot?"

Shaky's questioning "can you get her?" implies the Crossed are probably almost out of range. Jackson's very, very good, as proven with his use of the knife last episode. But at long range, even he loses accuracy, and the nun is huddled behind her "sacrifial lamb."

Not to mention, shooting from a moving boat at a distance while standing? Freaking hard. And this is not a world where ammo is particularly easy to come by.

Nothing about the situation was good as it was but this latest shooting seems likely to make things so much worse.

Methinks Shaky's day of reckoning is coming fast. Do you think it's possible he ends up being the new Man in Black in the end?
  9.  (11186.18)
And the last shot is the welder's visor slowly going over his face? Creepy!

I still think the ending was telegraphed by the promotional image: he's alone on his perch with no escape from the Crossed, and everyone else is gone....

"Methinks Shaky's day of reckoning is coming fast. Do you think it's possible he ends up being the new Man in Black in the end?"

For a second there I thought you meant Shaky becoming the Crossed-verse's version of Randall Flagg/Walter O'Dim/Marten Broadclock before I saw what you meant. My thoughts are too much tied to the Dark Tower, LOL.

After lurking here for an eternity I finally decided to sign up. WYWH and the Australia special are my favorite parts of the Crossed franchise apart from Garth Ennis' works. The stories in both flow very fluidly and everything, including the characters' mistakes, is believable. I remember some time ago when the true events at Fort George were revealed that some people complained about the way it fell. I didn't see it like that: the Black Watch took an enormous amount of precautions and they sensibly put down those of their men who had been infected, and it still wasn't enough. To me it comes down as this: in the world of the Crossed, the non-Crossed have to succeed each and every time just to survive. The Crossed, OTOH, only need to succeed once. And this is before any of the other factors come in, such as infighting amongst the survivors, survivor groups fighting each other (like we saw with Addy's family and the desert raiders in Family Values and now with the Cavaites and the driftfleet), individual non-Crossed preying on others (see: Harold Lorre, Amanda) and starvation, disease etc.

As for Aoileann's intentions toward Shaky, I think she might have sought to recreate the situation she had with Shaky and Ashoke before Shaky abandoned the latter. Consider that up until that point they were pretty much acting as the parents to Ashoke's "toddler". And we've seen that as a Crossed, she seems to have had a perverted maternal instinct toward Ashoke in his "Trashbag Mummy" guise. So it makes sense that Aoileann would have also sought to recreate her relationship with Shaky as well, only as Crossed.

Of course, now with Ashoke dead, it looks like all that is out the window, and Jackson may have unwittingly opened a can of cosmic whoopass on the Cavaites. And I don't feel so comfortable about the upcoming driftfleet raid, either...

In any case, however it ends, I'm sure we'll all be in for quite a ride! shudder

Seriously, it's for your own good. Horrible things are coming.
