It's Thursday (it's not Thursday!)! It's mid-afternoon in London (it's not mid-afternoon in London!)! It's another wrongheaded morning in Mericky! (This bit remains true.) It's who-the-fuck-knows-when in Australia! (As does this.) It's time for more Crossed hideosity!

    Episode 72, live and free-to-air.

Remember: Not safe for work, not safe for minors, not safe for people of a nervous disposition, not safe for my poor, numb toes.

    Tab!
    Sigh.
    What's she trying to find?

First Jackson, now this. Dear gods man, how much do you think my feels can take!

The fact that I care so much about these characters is what sets them apart from the usual Crossed rape-fodder. Can't wait to see what fresh hell you have in store for my emotions.

God damn, is that what the pen was all about, just another reason for him to grab another pen, and see Tab?
    What a let down...
Anyway, Tab is looking for something, that's not good, there are two types of good crossed, those who kill, rape, eat and rape some more, and those that are dead.
Tricksy crossed are a fucking nightmare to deal with, and that's what makes this series so good, it's not just another outbreak, they're fucking learning.
I remember the episodes where the weakest crossed just got killed and raped, now they're fucking obeying Teresa? Color me scared as a nun at an orgy.
Well, it seems that Dora wasn't a tricksy type, that's kind of a shame, but I'm glad she wasn't, if she was...she'd have rammed the island...that would've fucked them all up.
As for the shootout, always good to see large mobs of crossed wiped out.

Also, I FUCKING SAID SO! I knew that boat was a deathtrap, one crossed gets on the ship, no-where to run to, I fucking knew it!

So... if I hadn't noticed Tab going down the ladder, I might have cried at the last one. But thanks to the tiny prewarning, her being revealed as a crossed wasn't SO bad. Still sad :( Now I'm torn about whether I'd prefer Shaky to simply shoot her straight there to preserve the memories, or wait to listening to what she says. And since I suppose the latter one is more likely, I wonder if she'll have a message from Teresa to give (since she went with Shaky out on the sortie, and I think she was even wearing the same trenchcoat, Teresa might have recognized her). As to what the hell she's looking for, I have no idea.

Sort of sad to see Dora die as well, even if she was a plain crazy psycho. Shouldn't her text speech be red on her panel on page 8 where she's shooting, by the way? And I think the idea was ramming the island, but I suppose the ship was way too big to work as a missile and her crossed-induced psycho couldn't think of trying a different route.

Also, "what a letdown" about the pen if that was all there was to it? it's the option that makes the most sense out of every random speculation. "Teresa and/or the gamekeeper see a pen and they instantaneously know that there is only a single person who would be carrying one". Of course. It's not like anyone ever used a notebook and a pen to write down important stuff back when we didn't have smartphones or anything, what use could a pen possibly have in a post apocalyptic world? (for me: write down notes on survival learnt from whoever is boss (since they are usually cunts in this universe), learn enough, study them, get the hell out of his gang).

Besides, I call that Shaky is going to be the only survivor in Cava THANKS to having gone to get another pen. I expect that by the time he catches up to the place where the others went, they will have been rapekilled. Except possibly for whoever was on guard duty on top of the tower (Miranda? Maria? I don't think those 2 were shown in this chapter). And I'm sad at this prospect :(

Jackson wouldn't have been any more useful in this cluster. Odds are some of the Cava-ites will be killed attempting to flee. At this point survival for them seems to be a diceroll. If Jackson was there he'd have probably been killed anyways.

About the only luck anyone will have surviving in this world is if they have a submarine and an offshore platform to hitch to for refueling and recharging.

    Arrrgh!
Did Dora die? I'm not 100% sure, Shakey's been wrong before on what he thinks he's seen and he wasn't sure there.
    And Tab...
We're going to get 'the speech' aren't we? How she knew what he'd done to get her to 'safety' (ha!).
Lot more people on that ship than I thought we'd seen before (or the mini-farm on deck would hint) I thought, but then again, this is one ship from the flotilla, I can see everyone from all the other ships coming for 'the raid'.

I need a flash back! I want to see how the raid went, how the flotilla got taken over (did they all?) how Dora went down fighting (or was she one of the first?)

After such a setup over the months, this is a cracking pickup of pace, awesome stuff.

Bloody hell. Last episode showed a panel of shaky, alone in the rain writing in his journal so he clearly got a pen. But which one?!?! The biggest mystery of the series.

Poor Tab. It was certain because in a Grim Meathook Future nobody gets to be a lovely pregnant woman as an actual character, she'll always be a cipher for goodness and justification for bloody revenge. I'm still sad. I knew I would be.
  3.  (11227.10)
The final panel certainly was a combined Nightmare Fuel/Tear Jerker. Even without the cross, you can see how twisted and corrupt she has become based on her facial features alone.

The moment Tab notices Shaky, it'll be Patrick's scene all over again.

Oh, incidentally, despite the grimdark final panel, I couldn't help but chuckle at Shaky's "Yes we can" line in pg 8 when he threw the Molotov cocktail towards the ladders. This is because I recently read the Ashcan for the upcoming Badlands "Thin Red Line" arc by Garth Ennis, which confirms that C-Day was in summer 2008. This means that the Crossed pandemic hit the world after Barack Obama had secured the Democratic nomination for POTUS, which in turn means that any general pop culture and other common references by survivors are essentially stuck in summer 2008 (so no Avatar references, as neither movie ever came out in Crossed-verse, no Hobbit references, no Angry Birds etc.).

It may have been coincidental, but Shaky's words might also have been an ironic reference to Senator Obama's "Yes we can" line, which would still be remembered, along with "Hope and Change" (though the only change that ever occurred was that 99% "changed" into grinning plusface psychopaths. As for Hope... there is no hope, there is only the Crossed...). Makes one wonder what happened to Obama in the Crossed timeline, heh. For that matter, I wonder if Ennis will show us Bush's fate in Crossed, as he was still the President at the time? He likely was onboard Air Force One when it crashed (or was shot down), but knowing Ennis' hatred for the man (as reflected in 303), I wouldn't be surprised if he has a more, ahem, "interesting" fate in store for the Texas Chickenhawk.

I have a feeling that we saw Bush's fate somewhere. I think it was with Ennis, during the Horsecock pursuit, something to do with the diary of the downed pilots. I could be wrong.

I could see Barack Obama surviving the initial outbreak, using the skills that got him the nomination to carve out some sort of redoubt that not only survived but thrived after C-Day, even provide signs of hope for a possible future where humanity could emerge victorious in the long run ... and then the writers crash the whole thing down on our heads and burn it all down to the ground.

Because I suspect the writers like pulling the rug out from under us like that.

"Makes one wonder what happened to Obama in the Crossed timeline, heh."

Odds are he's crossed out and doing much the same as he's doing in this reality.

Aye, I'm always on Si's junk about how EPIC this series has been. And this was one of his crescendos...the dramatic irony, Shaky referring to his diary no one will read:-)

    Fucking brilliant.
