My experience was that I was firmly in the "kids are cool, I just don't want any of my own" camp until my wife was accidentally knocked up when antibiotics suppressed her birth control pills (which, as a trained sex educator, I should've remembered but oh well). We got to thinking about what we wanted to do at that point (I'm on the "It's not my body so I don't feel like I should have any kind of final say" side) and we decided to keep the pregnancy. Fate, well, she's sometimes a fucking cold hag and we ended up having to terminate the pregnancy about a month and change later; the first time I saw an ultrasound of that child was the same day we were told by a doctor that the kid's chances of living to full term were slim and making it through labor even lower.

But after some time spent healing and reconnecting, and a lot of discussion, we decided that after deciding to make a place for a kid in our lives we now had a kid-shaped hole. We had wanted to be parents, were happy to be parents, and statistical chance screwed us out of it. Considering the son we have now, the only kid we're going to have baring corrective surgery or divine intervention, I'm glad we made the decision we did. He's amazing. But just because I think my son is amazing doesn't mean anyone else has to or I'm suddenly advocating BABIES FOR ALL.

@taphead: God. I've seen those guys before in an earlier reconstruction, but that one cracked me up. The troll guy's delivery kills me.
