This is a report from the recovery operation done 22-26.3.2014 in valley of Plurdalen. Recovery operation was arranged to get home the two divers who lost their lives in diving accident 6.2.2014. Further reasons to do this project in addition to help families of the victims to get their loved ones back, was to do a favor for the cave diving community to help keep the Plura cave open in the future. This was a very unfortunate accident inside a sport which has otherwise good safety record.

To have 10-15min work time with the victims ment that dives would be 5-7h long. Worst case scenario was that divers can't go through from Plura side to Steinugleflåget side and have to come back, this would have ment +10h dive. Addition to the safety gas reserve, a safety habitat was built to Plura side. This habitat would allow divers to get out from the cold water and have safer decompression.

Alright so this sci-fi short story competition link got posted somewhere that I read. Cool, I thought.

THEN (oh yes) I looked at the products of the sponsor

Read the "multiple uses" column. Just read it. o_0

    @Kay:

JEBUS, that comes off like a backstory of a "this week's serial killer" in a cop show O_O

It puts the DNA in the container.

@Vorn - mate, I've been thinking about that one all day off and on, and while I can think of a whole world of pathological excuses and nasty fallout from those products, I actually cannot think of one actual use for any of it. Not a damned thing. I keep wondering if the whole company isn't itself fictional or some kind of hoax.

Is this the next generation of cryogenic storage scams?
  5.  (11238.7)
I wondered that, but then there's no suggestion of any practical use for the samples - they're basically props for various specious, creepy or delusional mindstates. Edit: going back and reading around, they ARE suggesting that this material might be used for cloning in the distant future, but they're doing a shit job of selling it if that's supposed to be the point.

Judging by the guarantee, it's a joke.

I thought of that too, like some sort of Scarfolk type thing, all very deadpan - but if that's the case they're opening up a whole world of pain from themselves by installing a functional shopping cart.

    Bank of England Quarterly Bulletin:
This article explains how, rather than banks lending out deposits that are placed with them, the act of lending creates deposits — the reverse of the sequence typically described in textbooks.

    You have my attention.

An earthquake in Yellowstone. 4.8, is that anything to be nervous about? Time to stock up on tinned food/break out the beers and emergency stash and party on down? I hope not, i was going to do me washing tomorrow, can't go to the end of the world with no clean pants.
(link here cos using the phone to post is a bastard - http://rt.com/news/yellowstone-national-park-earthquake-225/ )

@roadscum: Article says the earthquake is minor, so I'm guessing not.

@roadscum The article (and articles from sources I trust much more than rt.com, like the USGS) doesn't give cause to worry. It's not supposed to set off the supervolcano apocalypse junkies have been waiting for. So clean your damned pants already.

Interesting that the headline "Yellowstone hit by biggest quake for 34 years" is intended to indicate that this is significant and portentous, when it quite equally implies: Last time this happened, it was followed by jack shit for 34 years.
